Custom jack blocks
I couldn't stand the way my jacks fit into the jack points. So I created these aluminum blocks for my jack & stands, custom fit for the jack points under the W211. Its an odd rectangular shape, ~1x1x2.5". These fit directly into the four jack points, see pics. For the jack stands, I drilled holes into the blocks and countersunk the bolts, and tapped threads into the jack stands' tops. I have abit more aluminum stock to cut a few more blocks if anyone is interested.

Well admittedly, cost would be portion of the aluminum stock (~$1/inch) plus the darn jigsaw blade (two cuts and the blade is dull, $2). Say it would be $5/block plus whatever shipping would be to you.
Actually, for those handy with tools. I bought the aluminum stock off of ebay; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=180125213197

One question for you folks that work on your own W211, what other jack points are there other than the four (4) along the rocker panel? Reason being, all that I can "see" underneath is plastic panels that can't hold up any weight what so ever, ie. other than the four (4) jack points.

Now you see the problem. I have difficulty when i want to use jack stands and support the weight vs on just jacks.
Yesterday I found num-nuts from tire dealer (not sure which one or when) jacked on the flex material close to the jack pad and broke out a 3x6" chunk of material

I miss the big rubber bumpers the older benzes had, even the most retarded tire man could find them. I am thinking about a second generation jack pad for permanent install.

the blocks look very nice.
Just be carefull not to have them rest metal to metal on the jack stands. It makes it very easier for the car to slide off if there are any side forces.
I'm too lazy to get down on my hands and knees to work on the car.
I got a lift years ago. I even use it to clean the wheels.
The hardest part is finding time to work on the car.

I have considered the lift, but my concrete pad has my Excursion and 23' Bluewater boat. No room in the garage and the back pad at the workshop has to stay clear for moving cars into the a/c to do work on them. Danged now if I just had a 36x24' pad instead of a 24x24'.

or a sissor lift you can drive over. when you are not using it.
I ended getting a portable lift. A little more expensive but with my limited space..

Sounds like you need a 4 post lift that can double for parking! Which sometimes I wish I had.

The sissor lift is what I was considering,, but what about tipover and stability. Does it bolt to the concrete / or is it stable as is. ?

The one pictured is bolt in and very stable. That style can go unbolted as there is a version that is portable.
Portable as in move around the shop not put in the trunk of your car.
The sissor style is one of the more stable of the bunch is is better for home use.

You want to see scary I used my portable lift to change the tranny of my one ton crew cab dually. twenty five ft long or whatever, six feet in the air and only an 4 foot patch not bolted to the ground in the middle.
Needless to say I had a couple of screw jacks on each end of the truck to keep things stable as I broke the bolts loose.

Engine cross-member jack point
There is a fifth jack point on the engine cross member. Photo of the part used on the W211 attached. I have successfully used the engine cross member jack point (with slight modifications) in place of the standard jack points along the the side of the car for use with jack stands similar to those pictured in the first post of this thread. I submitted an article to STAR magazine on this very topic and it will appear in the July/August issue.

I've always dreamt of getting one of these single post lifts;

Heres a picture of the jack point on mine. Its good to use when you want to lift both front wheels at the same time. but sometimes if your car is low or the jack is too high it is a little hard to use. when I want to use this jack piont I roll the front tires onto a couple of 2x6 first to raise the car a little.

Excellent unit for storage use. Not too practical to work on a car though.
