Chrome Wheels on a New E350 Sport
I know the “General” feeling about chrome wheels on a MB. But, I've
had them as standard equipment, on Caddys and Town Cars, and put
after market ones on my vette.
Yesterday - I saw chrome wheels on a Bentley. I thought they looked
great! But being the lowly red neck country boy that I am, some may
tend to under value my opinion on critical issues.
So, does anyone have the nerve to admit to actually putting chromes
on a new MB? (May God help us all.)

Although it's not a chrome finish, the Carlsson UL's has this high polish that looks like chrome.

States it is NOT Recommemded to chrome plate the alloy rims
But the dealers still do it to increase the bottom line
Ever see a Rim thats been plated and a few years old?Peeling / Pitted and They Leak at the bead area of the rim
And If you ever have to repair a Curb rash the wheel must be stripped and replated
Chrome Plating of MB Light Alloys is NOT Recommended
The reason is as follows:
When Chrome plating an MB light alloy wheel, the wheel must first be anodized (Copper Plated)
The Difference in EMF (Electro Motive Force) The Values between copper and aluminum results electrolytic corrosion with aluminum being the sacrificial metal. This WILL result in WEAKENING of the base metal as well as poor adhesion of the subsequent plating, and thereby premature flaking of the chrome finish.

chrome wheels.
However, I love the standard wheels that come on the
Sport. So if ever I DID decide to get chromes, I would
just have the Sport Wheels chromed. But, doubt I will.
