As stated, I'm checking out an '05 E500. Pretty much loaded except the owner had aftermarket seat heaters installed. She bought it CPO in Dec '06 and it is under warranty till Dec 2010. They're asking $40k. Do you think it's a good deal if I can get it for $35k? Please chime in with any thoughts. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning. Thanks for any feedback.

The aftermarket seat heaters dont void the warranty do they?

$35k would be a great deal on a car that was $70k+ out the door in 2005. Thats a 50% depreciation on what the first owner paid in 2005.

Won't void the warranty. It all depends on where they tapped the power to the heaters. I installed alarms and stereos for 20+ years and never had a warranty problem because of an install. They can deny warranty if the installed part directly affected the problem area/part. And, they have to prove it as well.

If there is a warranty from Mercedes and the car is "pristine" then it would be ok in my book.

Checked it out this morning. Pretty good shape. A few paint issues but no repaint. Just a few nicks and scratches but not too bad. Interior is clean. I would give it a 8/10. Good deal if I could have gotten it for $35k but the dealer offered her $36k. Asked her if she would bite if I gave her $36k but she said she had another person coming to look at it. Oh well, plenty of E500's and I'm sure I'll find one at a great price in the next 8-10 months. Should be a lot of them coming off lease.

In NY, shes better off taking the same money you would pay her from the dealer as a trade in allowance. That lowers her new car cost by $xx, which means here she will save the 8.75% NYS sales tax on that amount.

Good idea but she's just wants to sell it and not replace it.
