Wow, that birds eye maple is absolutely gorgeous. Whatever complaints I had, I don't have now.... just wow. Thats far better looking then the normal wood. Now if I could only retain the non sport rims, it would be perfect. Think the dealer would mind doing a switch for no money?

Back on track for the radio-seek question, some doc I have from MB (don't have my car yet, but I was digging through some MB propaganda) indicates that on the "vehicle preferences" menu (odometer/audio/phone/nav/trip/malfunction/preferences), there is a setting for "radio station search (frequency/memory)", which sure seems like you can make the up/down buttons (or the 'search' buttons perhaps on the console?) search either through the radio spectrum (frequency) or through the presets (memory). This is one of the 9 submenus that the doc I have talks about under 'prefs' (submenus are set clock/interior light fadeout time/radio search/outside temp display celsius-or-farenheit/display languange eng-french-etc/reset to factory defaults/night security illumination/headlamps/driveaway locking)

These items could be euro-spec but it's a US document.

I wish I could walk out to my car to verify this, but it's in assembly :-)

jposhea3,

I barely had my car 10 days before going into service, but my recollection is that the steering wheel surf will only function in seek mode with the KH system. I really noticed this as I have a little 2002 C240 loaner, and the software allows a selectable Memory seek or general seek. I wish the E500 had the same. It would be nice to just flip through the presets. Again, I could be mistaken due to my short time with my car, but I believe this to be correct.

I had gotten used to using the center console for selecting FM stations. There is an option for sorta an Auto-Seek, which will bring in the strongest x# (like 12) stations. Then there is a Memory option, which you program one at a time. Ideally, you could surf through both. Not complicated to program, but clearly MB needs something like a 15-year-old male from Southern California to advise them on A/V options.

If only we knew of someone like that ...

The E500 does not have the ability to change the settings like the older models did, this is very dissapointing. My dealer hopes that when the NAV System is installed a software update can fix this issue. It is a real shame for a car in this price range and a car this good to have a simple oversight issue like this.

Why can't we get someone from M-B to participate in this forum to help us out with this oddity??? In most other forums that I participate in for a "quality" product, it is quite easy to get the vendor's comments, suggestions, but especially his ear when there's an issue like this that has folks talking.

Hey M-B, we've some some questions that need answers!!!

It only seeks to the next station, not the next preset. I would love an MB software fix but 1) it states in the owners manual that it is a seek to the next station function (therefore not something they are likely to change) and 2) given there are no radio change options in the trip computer, it may by a wiring change not a software change.
