And the steering wheel is huge in comparison to the dash & the rest of the visible interior.

The spy-photo is probably a real prototype. Ugly as it is the interior is consistent with the C-Class and BMW 5 series. As we all know BMW and MB are always looking to see what the other guy is doing even if he is doing it wrong.

Hopefully, M-B will get feedback before producing this disgusting interior. IF not, sales will suck and MB will revise the interior quickly. You would think MB would know its target buyer. At least, get a few people (public) in a room for feedback.

I agree with most everyone here...the interior is HORRIBLE (if this is indeed the prototype). I even think the S-class interior also kinda sucks...

Honestly, MB needs to take some cues from Audi and Lexus when designing the interiors.....

If this happened, I would have to change to BMW. Just cannot please every taste, not with the Lexus style, not the European classic style enthusiasts at least (where the photo of this thread neither belongs).

that is very unusual looking interior, I don't like the wheel, it is the oddest looking angular airbag cover, I hope MB doesn't do that.

I think I know what happened! One of the designers from Chrysler snuck into the MB design studio and sabotaged the design. This just can't be the real deal...

Nothing right now- am in college.
It's a total fake. Why is the Nav screen so small? Why does it look so different from both the C and S? Why does the picture look so odd and "filtered"? Fake fake fake!

That interior is ugly. They got it so right with the W211 (except for the ridiculous armrest update).
This angular b.s has no flow. Where's the chi

Hopefully by some flook the E60 replacement isn't as hideous as the E60 is.

Bad, Bad, Bad! I would NEVER learn to love that interior. Sure hope they don't make that big of an obvious mistake. Does not have any Luxury appeal what so ever. It pained me to see BMW make such a bold move with their current designs & I hope Mercedes sticks with elegance & not edgy designs. I think someone here in MBWorld forums needs to photoshop a decent interior & email it to the Mercedes German designers.

MB already did consumer research in my area regarding interior of next E. Unfortunately I couldn't participate, however I'm pretty sure that people provided right feedback.

I don't like the new C series interior.... and now I am seeing that they are going to screw up the E ...... maybe they will have the M5 Touring out in the states by that time.... or how about an S8 Wagon?

Did they do research in your area for the new C-Class interior as well? How are participants selected?

.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
It is possible, it might be the W212's "finished product" on first post.

According to BoLd69's W204 and Frissen's W204

They get information from dealerships who bought certain type of luxury cars in certain period and is about to buy a new one in 1-2 years. Then they do telephone screening to figure out if you may express opinion a big group of people (some psychological test) and finally offer you a participation.Interesting thing that you get paid for participation around $200. I've participated in a similar research for Jaguar S-type replacement. What I can se now that new Jaguar XF has exact interior as was shown us 4 years ago (every one liked it), however exterior got some changes, because nobody liked originally proposed.

I hate to be the pessimistic one here, but I absolutely believe that could be the new interior. If you look at the steering wheel it is very similar to the new W204 C-Class, but not exactly the same which says to me that someone did not just copy and paste the steering wheel from a C-Class, but rather this is the new design direction of Mercedes-Benz.

Someone mentioned that the spy photograph shows an S-Class style direct shifter and this picture shows a manual shifter. To address this--don't forget that in European markets they offer manual transmissions on the E-Class, so it is possible that they will have two different shift mechanisms for manual and automatic. The cars that currently have the direct shifter (S-Class, CL-Class, R-Class, M-Class, GL-Class, and R-Class) do not have manual transmissions as options anywhere in the world, so it was normal for them all to have the same shifter. But with the E-Class, they have always had both options, so we might seem both methods, just not in the US.

Next issue: the small navigation screen. That screen in the picture looks like the C-Class without navigation. Again, in non-US markets, you can get an E-Class without COMAND screen. These pictures could be showing a European version of a new Audio 20 or Audio 50 unit, and not the COMAND navigation screen which might have a flip up system similar to the new C-Class. I have also heard that many new cars in the future will feature nav screens higher up on the dash because there might be new regulations on that for saftey and distraction reasons.

I agree with you all that it is pretty hideous, but unfortunately I think many might be in denial. Also, regarding the comment that with new designs we all hatethem at first, then learn to like them, then love them. I would disagree. For the W221 S-Class I did follow that pattern, but with the W204 C-Class it is not the same. I have grown to love the exterior of the new C-Class (moreso after seeing a brand new black C350 on the road tonight), but I honestly don't think the interior will ever captivate me like my W203 does. I will no doubt learn to live with it, but love it is another story. I feel that the same might be true of the new W212 E-Class.

Does anyone remember this "fake" drawing of the C-Class interior from years ago? Look how similar it turned out to the finished product. Actually, I like the picture better--it has more wood.

I too tend to believe that is the next interior. Here's another pic of the exact same interior but in a different color. Someone needs to stop them before they hang themselves. This too will definitely be my last E-Class. I chose my car over the BMW because it seemed to be more luxurious. This interior looks cheap & messy. It's like they said "hey let's design the most hideous interior & see if we can get someone to buy it". I'm quite pleased on the exterior shots I've seen. We do have choices in the cars we buy & I guess I'll move on to another brand. If this is remotely close to the new C interior, I'm just not feeling it. And why should we have to "learn" to like something. I guess it's kinda like that really ugly girl that has a nice personality. You learn to like her you just don't want to marry her or be seen in public with her. Mercedes will be taking a HUGE step back with this one. The Audi is looking much more appealing now.

I checked the date of the post to make sure it was not posted on April 1st. Great laugh though and thanks for posting a humorous thread.

To use the famous quotation from Victor Meldrew:

I don't believe it!
