Sat. button used for iPod?

Hey Guys,

Is there a way that I can use the Sat button on my panel as an Aux button and then attach an ipod cable from the back of the system?

I'm getting tired of my RF ituner and want to see if there's another option for me.

Thanks!

Why don't you just use the AUX input jack in the glove box?

You'll need a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug which you can buy at Radio Shack for about 4 or 5 bucks. Plug one end into the IPOD headphone jack and the other end into the jack in the glove box. Then choose AUX in the COMAND screen in AUDIO (where you choose AM or FM).

I totally agree with this. I haven't plugged my IPOD into my car once since I got SIRIUS.

I agree, but I use both. Sometimes I want to hear songs when I want to hear them.

I've thought about getting SIRIUS but sometimes I just like to listen to old school mixes and stuff like that.

I just got back from a three week driving vacation and had both MP3 CD's and Sirius. Despite my best efforts, I simply could not burn all the music at the same amplitude so I was constantly readjusting the sound level with the CD's.

SAT radio had better sound than MP3 CD's, maintained the same level throughout and also provided alternatives to music (comedy, old radio shows, news, etc.). Now I'm not as happy with Sirius as I think I would be with XM Radio because Sirius hasn't any pop music older than about 1957 and that channel wasn't so well done.

If you like classical, the channels on Sirius are excellent.

We have an iPod that we'd used last year but didn't even bother with it this trip since we can now burn MP3 CD's and listen to SAT radio in the '08.

With MP3 CD's you can take an awful lot of music on 6 or 7 CD's.

XM's 50's & 60s Channels are better because they sound like radio. The effect of the merger will bring better programming.

Update: So I'm now using a stereo plug I bought from Radio Shack for $7.00 and the AUX in my glove box...It's working perfectly.

Questions to guys that are using the AUX. Are you just keeping your ipod in the glove box or are you routing the stereo wire out of the box some way?

Thanks!

The XiriuM merger means more channels, but also no real competition (besides HD and internet radio) so expect subscription fees to be MUCH higher and customer service to be MUCH worse. Don't expect any "innovation" for the first year or so while they try to recoup the millions each company invested in celebrity stations. I'm guessing the only real change we'll see is that you won't get all the stations at a low price anymore because they'll be broken up into packages like cable channels.

I just keep mine in the Glove box. I keep the Ipod in original soft case with the connector at the open end; it sort of protects the Ipod. If I need to use the Ipod outside the car, say when on vacation (without the car) I use a leather case.

I ran the wire out of the glove box in the back (had to drill a small hole) and then ran it within the center console to the area just behind the cup holder. That way, i can plug the ipod in and close the cover of the console without any visible wires. Took about an hour to do. Had to remove the panel on the bottom of the passenger side dash (removed two screws), lift the wood shift surround, and lift up on the center console (removed two screws). I had to drill a hole in the back of the glove compartment, and another hole into the shift area. There was already a hole from the shift area into the center console (on the front). I also drilled a hole in the piece that separates the cup holder compartment (under the cup holder) to the very back of the console, which is where I keep my ipod.
