Bluetooth Text Messages (SMS)
Has anyone had any luck getting the TEXT message (SMS) features to work with any bluetooth phone?

I have an SMS soft key??
I just had a BT puck (I think the one with no tail, as I already had a cradle in the car) installed by Auto Addiction in Lindenhurst NY. I have a Motorola Q and a BB 8700g, and both phones pair no problem with the puck.
I did notice though that on the Tel display I now have a soft key (the top, right key) that now says SMS. I haven't tried it yet, but it is there. I will give it a try tonight and see what happens. I'll let you guys know tomorrow.

SMS stands for "Short Message Service"... what the wirless folks call TXT MSG, or text messages. Although I don't get TXT's sent to my cradled phone ever, I guess if someone does send you a TXT Msg you press that softkey to read it on the Comand Screen.

You cannot read SMS's that are already in your phone. You can only use the SMS soft key to read new incoming msgs.
I have a V3 RAZR w/ the BT cradle.

I know you are waiting for info from US car owners but SMS reading and writing works fine with the Euro BT puck, through COMAND. Comand does not allow writing while driving but it does allow reading while driving.
Technically the BT HF puck is different, the SAP device looks for the car more like a phone in the cradle. But I often read and write SMS messages from my phone, using my laptop over the BT connection. Should be possible for COMAND then too (not sure if this is using some proprietary interfaces as I am using a PC application from the phone manufacturer).

FYI
Q=Motorola Q Verizon
BB = Blackberry 8700g T-Mobile
1. I paired the Q, and sent a text message to it from the BB. Nothing showed on the COMAND screen. All this time the SMS button was greyed out.
2. I then paired the BB, and sent it a txt message from the Q. Same result.
So, I couldn't read any txt messages on COMAND, nor any alert that a message had been recieved by the phone. And no way to type and send a txt message from COMAND.
I have the US COMAND unit.
Oh, well...

As far as the Euro Comand goes MB couldn't even enable this option saying that the teleaid system is not compatable with the EU comand...(thats why the phonebook doesn't dowload either in the EC mode)

Not Sure
I have only had the car for a few weeks. It was pre-owned and don't have a full vehicle history. I am figuring that as the SMS option is on COMAND, even though greyed out, the potential is there. If could be a STAR change is needed to enable the function?

Thats when i was told ,it is because of the EU/teleaid compatibility.

SMS is greyed out if there are no messages. Try sending an SMS from another phone and then check it.
