My Command Screen showed me "FOLDERS" when I inserted a CD...

I insterted a newly burned audio CD and my command screen displayed a new option (on one of the 'soft keys') that read "FOLDERS", as if I could navigate through the folders of a CD-ROM. I ejected the CD and re-inserted it, and it played like an Audio CD, as normal.

Anyone knows what that means?

It might have mistaken it for an MP3 disc... Do you have a Euro COMAND?

No euro command, as far as I know. It's the original unit, U.S. spec...

Pop the CD into your computer and view the files on it. If it's just an audio CD all the files should have a .CDA extension; if you see anything other than .CDA then you have a [I forget the term] CD.

Many foreign audio CDs include things like video clips, web links, etc. in addition to the normal audio. You might have one of those. If that's the case, then your COMAND may have attempted to read the extra information and given you the folder option (like it would for .MP3 CDs).

Probably MP3's

I just had my COMAND unit s/w updated by Auto Addiction in Lindenhurst NY. The single CD now works with MP3's, but not the changer. Oh well. So, when I put a CD containing MP3's in the single CD drive, the folder option now appears. So, what I do is put either albums or playlists in their own folder and I can then use the Folders soft key to navigate to each folder.

And, if you edit the ID3 tags correctly, the track title appears on COMAND, as well as in the instrument panel display, which is very, very cool.

Another thread also mentions that after the s/w update, regular radio stations may also show the song title and artist. That is, if the radio station transmits this info. This is a bad explanation, but if you search for the real thread, it has more details.

Have you actually seen RDS info onscreen while listening to a radio station? I don't believe we have that capability.

Not yet

I only got the s/w update the other day, and I only read about RDS transmissions yesterday (I think) on this forum. From what I gather, it is dependent on whether particular radio stations are transmitting this info. I will check a few of the main NY stations and see if any are transmitting.

Sorry, missed a bit I wanted to say. So this other thread seemed to indicate that after the s/w update COMAND now has the ability to show RDS info, but only if the stations are transmitting.

The thread said that RDS was possible if you have Euro COMAND, which you probably don't (neither do I). Unfortunately, I don't think the update will do it.

I'm not sure what would happen if you had a US COMAND and then did the 3-5-7 trick to get into ECE mode. I wonder if RDS would be available then.
