Interesting, w212 may be using 4.0 V6 from Chrysler...

"Under the hood, the new E-Class will get a familiar range of engine sizes. Despite the recent breakup of Chrysler and Daimler-Benz, we're still expecting base E-Class models to get a version of Chrysler's upcoming 4.0-liter Phoenix V6. Given that the current Mercedes V6 has 268 horsepower, the new 4.0-liter should top 300 hp, if not more. "

I dont think any MB's have had a Chrysler engine yet. Infact, have any MB's had any Chrysler parts? I know Chrysler is using MB parts, which makes sense to boost that brand's quality, but the other way around is murder.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Generally, it has been MB passing down parts to Chrysler. Chrysler Crossfire is basically a SLK32. I think the 300M has E-Class suspension, transmission, etc.

It'd be interesting to see MB using this new 4.0L engine from Chrysler.

I own a Chrysler product and I'll admit it does not rank very high in my list of all time favorites but I saw 2006 new, untitled Crossfires on the internet advertised for $20,000. If the drivetrain is all M-B as I have been told, they are throwing in the sheetmetal for free. If I was running a business, I would be all over their stuff for utility type vehicles. The warranty (aforementioned Crossfires included) is unprecedented and will surely keep them in the red for years to come. It will be interesting to see how many consumers (there will be some) will hold their feet against the fire for half a million miles.

The M272 is only a few years old. I really doubt this is true

Re Chrysler Parts

My lowly Jeep has the heavy duty A580 MB transmission, same as used in the E55, imported from Germany no less, and a lot of other hand me down MB technology thruout. It is no MB, one look at the interior door panels or dash will tell you that, but it is surprisingly well put together and has been completely trouble free to date. I think that MB influence has (had) a lot to do with that. The Chrysler 300 is largely hand me down W210 technology.

While I would be surprised to see parts going the other way, from Chrysler to MB, MB has retained about 20% of Chrysler, and in today's auto world, anything is possible. Time will tell.

.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
Isn't Phoenix V6 suppose to have "cylinder deactivation" technology just to save between 6~8% fuel comsumption during the cruising speed?

How many people get the chance to "cruise" nowadays? ( I don't see any place w/out traffic? )

Why not just continue to offer better diesel engine? Or put that " we are the technology, and they are the copycat " attitute down and come out w/ better hybrid engine? ( hell, buy the patent from Toyota and see if MB can become true "3M" in automaker").

That'll be great marketing .."Buy a MB w/ a Chrysler engine!"

MB already has had cylinder deactivation for years now in Europe on the V12's.

If true, I'm sure Mercedes has played a large role in the development of the engine, making it a joint development.

What I find most surprising is that the base engine will be a 4.0. Getting larger and larger.

The M137 V12 had cylinder deactivation. It was available in 2000-2002 in the US

There is no way Mercedes is going to use some oversized, underpowered, Chrysler derived lump under the hood of the next E-Class.

When Mercedes shows the facelift for the SLK (SLK350), that will be the MB V6 of record for the next few years. There is no way Mercedes has to resort to a V6 of 4 liters in size to get 300hp. There is already a direct injection version of the 3.5L V6 in Europe with 292hp in the CLS350 CGI. This engine or an updated variation thereof is what will be in 09' SLK, C and 2010 E, CLK. Likely with some tweaks to get 300 or more hp out it. The only question is whether or not the current CLK and E get this engine since for 09' since 09' is the last year for those models.
