Dbl-spoke 18" AMG wheels with tires? How much should I pay?

Guys,

I need you help with figuring out a fair price for 18" silver AMG double spoke wheels in non-staggered configuration. I have an opportunity to buy 4 18/8.5 wheels with practically new tires on them. The seller tells me that the wheels are in flawless condition and wants $1500 for the whole set. What do you think is a reaonable price for these?

Also, I currnetly have stock 17" wheels with regular sized brake rotors. Do you think that 18" AMGs would look good with non-oversized rotots?

Thank you,
Alex

One good way to find out the going rate is to compare to sales on here. But make sure you'll compare pics as well. Its been known that what is acceptable to one is not to the other; i.e. scratches left over from wheel weights, etc. Some even list percentages of thread available without being specific. My rule of thumb: 2/32 thread depth measured at any place of the tire = 0%

2nd was Amdeutsch said. If they have the Conti's on them and they are almost new, that's $1000 right there. The E55 AMG wheels seem to have dropped in price IIRC. I remember $1500 being a good deal 2 years ago. Could still be a good deal with the lots of tread and no shipping cost.

Thank you for your feedback, guys.

Based on what the seller tells me two of the wheels have brand new Falken's Y rated fk452's tires and the other two OEM Continentals with 95% thread left. He claimed that the wheels came of 2006 E55.

Sounds like $1500 maybe too steep for this set up. I'll try to negotiate and see how much flexibility he has.

I bought mine for $1200- new take offs -last fall. I had to get new tires last week (the Contis STINK) and found one of the front rims were bent. New rims are about $250 a piece on the internet. Don't get too excited about the Conti's, wear out very quickly, are noisy and the treads cup badly. Both discounttire.com and tirerack.com reviews are very negative on this tire. Falkens are very cheap replacement tires and are not worth much money.

I picked up a set of staggered replica AMG 18's with Nexen Z rated tires (great looking directional tire, supposed to last for 30,000 miles or so and had very good reviews). The entire package cost $1,325. That included lugs, center caps, shipping, mounting and RoadForce balancing. They're available on eBay from OE Wheel Distributor or something to that effect. They have the non-staggered ones too, but I REALLY recommend the staggered setup....looks sooo much better.

Some guys don't like the replicas due to weight, but these only weigh a few pounds more than the real deal. Safety is another thing that always comes up, but they're DOT (et al) approved.

I've had custom wheels on almost every car I've ever owned and finish wise, I was really amazed with these...they're powder coated silver and clear coated, so they look just as shiney as my buddy's real AMG's.

I just couldn't see spending $3K on a set of wheels for a car that's worth less than $25K (especially when I'm not racing, etc.). Kinda along Chris Rock's train of thought where he talks about spending money on rims...They spinnin' ____, they spinnin!

Anyway, I'm not saying I wouldn't buy real AMG wheels...just not right now and not on this particular car.

By the way, the silver is definitely subtle, but I can't believe how many "normal" people notice my wheels now. When I got them, I just wanted to make the car drive more like the sports cars I'm used to, but maintain a stock appearance. I had no idea people would actually notice them, but I don't mind one bit!
