Yes carmax gave me an decent price on a 2001.5 VW Passat. They give you an estimate that is valid for 7 days, 300 miles, so what I did was get the estimate and they use it to convince the MB dealer to match the price so that I could do all the paperwork in one place.
I failed at it since the price offered by the MB dealer was $1000 less than carmax.
So I went back to carmax with the car. It was pretty hassle free, takes around 1.5-2 hours start to finish and you walk out with a check.
I could have gotten more if I had simply sold the car myself, but did not want to deal with that.
