You guys have CDIs? Because mine is not a CDI (E320 4Matic) and I was told by my SA that I do not need it done at this time (am at about 135,000 km [~85,000mi]). He mentioned that the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank and only required at around 200,000+km (~125,000 miles).
Can anyone confirm this for me please?

What year is your E320?
BTW, your SA was correct in telling you that the filter is inside the tank. Actually, it's in the tank section that is on the driver's side accessible from under the rear seats. The passenger tank side has the fuel pump. It took me about 2.5 hrs to replace my filter (first time), and I hope to cut this time in half when I have to do it again. I bought the filter and special wrench from a dealer who provides discounted parts to MBWorld members -- total of almost $200.

Discount for MBWorld members.
Wow, first I hear that,
How did you or some one entice them to this? I know that the MB Club of America members got discount on parts but....
How much was the discount?
Note that if you have a mechanic friend the discoun t he gets is probably quite substantial.

1998 E320 Sedan
Does anyone know of a DYI here in this website and with photos to replace the fuel filter on a 1998 E320 Sedan US Version??? I'm thinking of changine mine since I'm not sure if it was done before I purchased the car at 95,000 miles and now it has 147,000. It runs fine but noticed my mileage is not as good. Replaced the motor mounts yesterday.

Sorry, I should have qualified my reply -- I do not have a CDI. The MB service sheet for gas W211's (AP00.20-U-1205A, downloadable from http:/www.mercedestechstore.com) shows that for the FSS service item #5, the fuel filter needs to be replaced every 60000 mi/96000km or 5 yrs. Since this service sheet was published in July 02, it is valid for 2003 W211's (I have an 03 E320) and probably 2004's.

Thanks for your post. I am a bit confused because the dealer told me that the fuel filter for my 03 E320 is part of the fuel pump (or what they call a "sending unit"). Based on your description, the fuel pump is on the passenger side and the fuel filter is on the driver's side. Do you know if there's a way to find out without taking off the seat and removing fuel parts?
Thanks!

To reiterate e320 fuel filter replacement every 60000 miles or five years.
