Exclamation Say a little prayer for people down in Southern California.

The fires are raging through Southern California (San Diego in particular) now and people are being evacuated and displaced from their homes. Just five minutes ago I was watching one of the news channels when there was live footage from Ranch Bernando. The footage showed someone's black W211 E320 (2003) being consumed by flames. I hope that it didn't belong to some member on this board but I wanted everyone to say a little prayer for all of the people who might be in danger now.

God help us all.

Hey Bro, I know you are in the north county, I pray that you are safe.

Down here in the south county, looks like the fire is racing through the Otay Valley towards the Otay Lakes (right behind my house). Four years ago, the fire got to the lake and thankfully it acted as a natural barrier, that saved our neighborhood. I am ready to head home and pack some important stuff in case we need to evacuate again.

This absolutely sux!

Be safe everyone.

I really wonder where our military in all of this. We have so many military personnel and equipment here that could really help us in fighting these fires. I am so disappointed that the state hasn't deployed national guards to offer the much needed support to the city.

Furthermore, in all the years that this has repeatedly happened, why has the Army Corps of Engineers not found a solution to stop or at least minimize the future risk to populated areas?

Actually, this time the emergency systems that are in place seem to be working. There is reverse 911, also 211 for information, lots of TV and radio coverage and information. Although there have been a lot of structures that have gone up in fire, the evacuations have been pretty orderly, remember that 250,000 people have been asked to evacuate, that is a monumental task.

The biggest problem is that San Diego is a desert, and the dry conditions and Santa Ana winds make it prime for problems like these. I am just not sure there is much that can be done to prevent these situations.

Be safe all.

Thanks to all, it is getting bad, there is a voluntary evacuation for Chula Vista so we are getting our valuables together and packing the cars.

it is horrible down here in San Diego. My cousins had to evacuate their homes in rancho santa fe already and its getting worse. All schools are now closed in SD county and most work/jobs are closed as well. Over 7 fires all together in SD only...100,000 + acres burnt in one day basically. Not including the Irvine and Los Angeles area fires which are just as large. it is horrible down here and I can't really breathe since my sinuses are so bad

Be safe. I wish the environmentals would have let you cut the dead trees down. This would have not spread as bad. Take care!

Hey TASHAKES,

Thank you for the kind words and I hope you and your family are safe.

I am in Scripps Ranch on the north side of Scripps Poway Pakway. My wife and two little children have already evacuated. I am staying behind and digging in to save what I can. My car is loaded and ready to go if necessary.

Why take the risk? What can you really do to stop the fire?

Don't be possessed by your possessions, go and be safe with your wife and children.

I agree! Possessions can be replaced over time...you life with your family cannot.

Take care of your wife and children, I'm sure they'll feel safer with you around and not worrying about you being safe in the house.

Guys,

Thank you for the words of wisdom. I am carefully watching the situation and my wife is with her parents now (along with the kids). I will get out as soon as I feel the situation is getting dangerous. It's not too bad at this time.

Still voluntary evacuation here, so were not leaving yet. Kills me that I have to leave my new (to me) Katana behind if we do need to leave, but that would be probably the least of my worries if worse comes to worse......

Good luck to us all....

My prayers to all who were affected by this brush fire. I, myself. our area was almost got swept by this fire in Canyon Country last Sunday night to the morning of Monday. I can see the fires from my bedroom window. Fortunately, the gusty wind was blowing to South-west direction and fires move away and passed where we at. Thanks God, we were spared.

To fellow members on the board who live in SD, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I can't imagine what is going through your mind. Take care of your family....they come first. If you need to evacuate and gather your belongings, make sure you can take printed photos & digital photos with you. All else can probably be replaced.

Please keep us updated.

btw, heard the fire is approaching Six Flags Magic Mountain.

There's nothing more I can say that hasn't already been said. I just hope everyone is well, and stays that way.

Maybe Norv Turner started the fire? That way nobody notices that he single handedly ruined the Chargers' season.

Sorry, just trying to throw a bit of comic relief in there.

Be safe everybody and don't try to be a hero.

It is heavily on news at this side of the pond too (can you remember news from our fires some time ago?). I heard it may continue a couple of days, hope it goes away soon. Our company has an office there too, don't have any close friends working there at the moment though.

For once it feels good that we have rain so often.

We are expecting winds to start up again today at 3:00 PM, so lets see what that brings. For now, firefighters are dedicated to saving structures. There have been over 50 helicopters brought in from who knows where to fight the brush fires from the sky while they have a chance to fly and the winds are down. Once they start up again, that will probably stop again. The only good news is that by Friday there will be a marine front that will bring some humidity and low clouds which will help bring down the heat and winds, so that will help put a stop to all the devastation. Now all we have to do is last till then......
