Pre 1990? At least our Euro EPC shows cars from before 1950, like 136, 180 or 186. Which model are you mainly after?

...on CD or DVD on eBay for about $20?

I note that that CD/DVD also will not run with Vista.

Along a similar line.
I've purchased a "Star Service Service Manual Library."
When it arrived it demands MS Windows.
I'm strictly a Linux user and have tried several different emulators (Wine, VirtualBox) without success to get this disc to run.
Any linux users that have tried this and succeeded?
Thanks

curious about future cost

I'm curious - what should I expect after the 365 day subscription expires?

Useless Windows OS in a world of Unix/Linux.

I don't get it, aren't StarScan diagnostics Linux or BSD? I thought Daimler used Linux?

Even Apple is BSD Unix based.

Damn Microsoft. Aarrgh.

Star is Windows based. Did Linux seriously exist at the time the first Star diagnosis tools were taken into use? Anyway, doesn't the US EPC run on Java too, should be just a question of adapting the browser and Java support on a Linux platform?

Apparently Mercedes uses Microsoft proprietary. I remember Daimler Chrysler being sued by SCO, and so maybe Mercedes used Linux, too. e.g., the portable StarScan tool for Chrysler from Brightstar.

Any kindly Americans willing to share their user name / password with a Canadian who doesn't hold a US credit card (needed for site access)? Promise not to abuse it.

Good news for Canadian members

I figured out how to bypass the US resident requirement to register for Canadians!

When you register your address (any US state will do), use the three numbers in your Cnd postal code followed by two zeros. The algorithim that verifies your zip code to the credit card address only looks at the numbers.

For example: if your Cnd postal code is M8Y 2X3 then you would enter 823 followed by 00 as your zip code.....82300.

It works!

I just tried with postal code V8L 3Z3 and entered 83300 but got this stopper
"SORRY: ZIP CODE MIS MATCH. PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR CREDIT CARD BILLING ZIP CODE".
That will have been the postal code for the card. Did I miss something?
Thanks

That's strange...it worked for me. I can't remember exactly, but I believe i used a real street address in Oarchard Park, NY (used one of my client's address) with the zip code changed in the manner described with no problem.

Try it in reverse....00 followed by your three numbers. Maybe I got it backwards?

Can we hear from another Canadian that has tried my method?

Tried again with a different credit card and got these errors. I'm suspecting perhaps the Linux thing is the stopper. It's a shame 'cause I had purchased a Star info CD when I was holidaying there last year and never got it to work with a Linux System. Ended up throwing it away cause I wasted some much time on it.
It's quite a choke hold that Microsoft has on the world; even on Mercedes Benz.
EPC-net does not presently support Macintosh or Linux Operating Systems. Please review the "Tech Requirements" under the "About Site" tab. and
SORRY: THERE WAS AN ERROR PROCESSING YOUR TRANSACTION. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.
Thanks for your help BlueOpal.
Tried with the numbers 00833 a well.

Thanks, I tried it a couple of days ago and it worked!
The datacard didn't show the bluetooth option that is in my car.
Is that because it is not a factory option but a dealer installed option?
I wanted to know if my car came with the ipod connection kit.
Just traded in my 97 E420 for a 2007 E550 4matic.
Picking it up tomorrow.
Woohoo!

Another Canadian here. I tried the real US address and fake zip and it worked. Interestingly, it did not work with the real zip. In my case, I added '00' to the end of the three numbers in my postal code.
