Hello fellow Benz enthusiasts...

I hope to be the proud owner of a 2008 E350 by year end. I am trying to decide on whether to go with the free upgraded sports package, or not.

The wheels and all the details look great. However, I am concerned about the tire life on these 18 inchers. They are a lot more expensive to replace than the standard ones.

Any Idea how many miles I may be able to get out of these tires, anyone? I am not an overly aggressive driver, and mix up my miles between highway and city.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have (AMG) sports package on mine and I believe 18" wheels are perfectly fine. The 19" or 20" are the ones that really need to worry. They don't last long and wears out easily as I have 19" on my other car. I have replaced them at least twice this year alone.

It is very hard to find an E350 in my area without the sport package. I think a search by my dealer for an E350 in Florida without the sport package turned up 2 cars. I finally gave up and took delivery of a 2008 E350 with the sport package. My lease on the C240 was up and I didn't have time to order an E without the sport package. I was more particular about the color (pewter exterior with cashmere interior), so I couldn't be choosy about the sport package. We'll see how the ContiProContact tires wear. I replaced the Contis that came on the C with Bridgestones. (I think some sport packages come with Michelin tires. You may want to take that into consideration in your decision). Again, I couldn't be choosy about tires, either.

Good luck with your decision. You will enjoy the car. My E handles much better than the C and the C handled much better than the Chrysler 300 that is the other car in our household. I don't know how much of the handling is attibutable to the sport package,though.

They seem to be the same brand michillen sport tires found on the normal E class also (well atleast the none sport 06 350) just diffrent size.. I would say you should be able to get a good 30k+ miles out of them, its not going to be like a sports car tire that you only get 10k miles on. Best bet is to head on over the tirerack.com and look and see what the warrenty is on the tires if it has none that means it will wear down very quick average warrenty is 50k ish miles, even then I had an ML that had tires rated for 65k miles and got them replaced 2 times for wearing too fast.

15k-20k if you're not an aggressive driver...let me know if I can help with your new purchase...

30k+ is not out of the question as these are all-season performance tires. They are not "summer tires" aka ultra high-perf as have been used on some other models. Because of this, they may give up a bit of grip at the limit (who drives there?) but will last about 2x as long as a summer tire. Just keep the inflation pressure at the appropriate level as this is a huge factor in tire wear.

8900 miles on my car. The front tires have about 70% tread remaining, the rears are at the wearbars for some odd reason
