I believe that the seat function may not push back if the normal set position is already far enough back for ease of entry/exit. On our car, the steering wheel will go up and down, but the seat does not move back because my normal setting is pretty far back as I am over 6 foot. Maybe that is the same for you.

If you want to try that theory, perhaps set the "normal" memorized seat position pretty far forward and try the entry/exit feature again, it should then push the seat back too. Let us know if that is it.

i checked it out, and i guess you were right, this morning i was trying to figure it out, and i guess it worked, so it was all the way back, and i memorized that setting to be #1, so thats why it got all messed up, but know it works, but i think setting #3 is the best way to go, because then you can move the steering wheel all the way forward, and the seat farther, so its easier

I have been having trouble with this also. Despite using the 'key dependent memory' feature, the mirrors and seats don't adjust for my wife and me until we press our respective number on the door. Shouldn't this happen automatically?!?

Barney: Do you have to press the #1/2/3/4 button once or do you need to keep it pushed until all the settings are in place?

I have to hold the numbered button down until the seat and mirrors complete their adjustments.

Barney: Dont you think that it is a little stupid from MB to do it like that. With a One touch feature it will be much better instead of been like a moron pressing the damn button until everything is set.

Crazy4Cars. I suspect they don't want the liability of someone inadvertently getting crushed or injured from a moving seat. This way they can blame the 'moron' who held his or her finger on the button!

But I'm still upset as I don't think the system is functioning as it was designed to. What does the 'key memory dependent' feature add if both my wife and I still have to press our respective seat memory buttons on the door? Does anyone know more about this or have any suggestions?

Lightbulb Key-dependent?

My understanding is that the seating memory is key-dependent, but you still must choose among your 3 settings. There can be a 1-2-3 for key A, and a 1-2-3 for key B. I have not tested this. I thought that also controlled the radio preset array. I believe you have to select your own position/station, but the memory contains your chosen favorites.

Interesting. I specifically asked someone about that at MB and they said the maximum number of memory settings, with or without key memory is 3. I think that makes sense as well as who needs positions remembered for 6 drivers (maybe if it is a taxi).

I tried something along the line that you suggested having my seat memory in my key for position 1 and my wifes in position 1 as well but with her key. I don't remember the specifics but that didn't work either.

I'll have to go by the dealer and see if anyone there knows how to do this or just what it is supposed to do.

I did clearly see in one of the MB brochures (a 2001 C class I think) that the key should remember your seat, mirror, radio and A/C settings. The photo showed the info 'beaming' into the car as you pressed the button to unlock the doors implying it would set those things before you even got in. The person I spoke with at MB said you had to put your key in first but that the seats and mirrors should then adjust. She didn't know anything about the radio or A/C.

Barney, I have had my E500 for 3 weeks and I can't figure the Key Dependent feature out either. My Jeep had the feature and it was easy to set for each key fob. Maybe BMMS8 or someone more technologically capable can help?

Key Dependent Feature

p. 110 - Be sure that the ignition is switched on or the relevant door is open AND the Smartkey is inserted in the starter switch.

p. 109 - You can store up to three different settings per key.

Can even remember the position of the front passenger seat for each memory setting.

Exclamation correction

I read the manual again last night and I was mistaken on an earlier post: the W211 E320 key-dependent settings are just for seat, mirrors, steering wheel. I believe my C320 did have the radio tied-in somehow, but I never did use it.
