Flip on your high beams and then have a look at them.

If they are poor (not malfunctioning) consider aftermarket Sylvania Silverstars.
I bought a set at Pep Boys. They come in two heat ranges now. At the time only the 4K range was available. They are a pretty significant improvement over stock. They produce a whiter light with better down range visibility. $40 for the set. I have another vehicle with factory HID and it is clearly superior to the Sylvania set up but not enough for me to start butchering the wiring harness etc to put in aftermarket Xenon. Hang on for a little while, LED is coming.

Well, I'm a 'newbie' also and am in no real position to give any advice on these cars...

But, go to eBay and search for:

Item Title: XENON HID BULB BLUE WHITE 8000K H7 100W HIGH BRIGHT
Item Number: 250181257899

I'm running this lamp as the low beam and the loght is brilliant.
I don't remember the last time I needed the high-beams.

And they don't cook the wiring, either....

I replaced the low and high beams. I don't know the proper names for the fogs, cornering, parking, etc. The lamps comes with the low and high filaments in one bulb. They are plug and play. There is a round bezel with hash marks to allow a straight blade scredriver to gain some traction. Unscrews counterclockwize to reveal the bulb / base. The small stainless base is easy to drop. Use cotton gloves (or a cloth) to keep your body oil off of the bulb. The working room is snug. Passenger side is do-able. The drivers side required me to move the radiator catch can aside slightly to get my meat hooks in there. Whole operation took 30 minutes. Next time probably 15
If you don't want the bother / expense of HID, it is worth it. These bulbs are made in Germany, reliable and not over the top. There are plenty of others out there that are flashier.

The BEST option is to purchase a set of REAL Mercedes Xenon headlights
NO Hacking of the headlights or wires....and they WILL have the correct projectors / cut off pattern

MBENZNL.com has bothe EURO and USA Xenon headlights

I bought the H7s to replace the low beam bulb. And yes, they're plug-n-play. But note this, the H7 is sold as a high-beam or a low-beam bulb. The high-beam is 100w and the low-beam is 55w.

But I used the 100w as the low beam..

And it's an easy install.

Now, for the fog lights, thats different.
The fog light bulb is a 9006 bulb.
But it's plug-n-play also, once you get past the underskirt.

OK, consider it like this.

If we're standing in front of your car, looking at it.

The low-beam lights are housed in the outside ovals (the big ones).
The parking lights and the high-beams are housed in the inside ovals (the smaller ones).

The 100w H7 bulbs I bought from eBay went into the outside ovals (the low-beam light).

The parking bulb is a low watt bulb, I'm unsure what the model number is.. I haven't replaced mine.

The high-beam bulb is also an H7.
The only difference between the low-beam and the high-beam is the low-beam has the projector (which 'points' the light) as opposed to the high-beam which has no projector. If you've ever noticed, the high-beam bulb is clearly visible, unlike the low-beam.

Hope this helps...

Just replaced the driver side low beam light bulb. What a freakin' pain. Like Clinton, took me about a half hour. The majority of time was spent trying to pull the damn bulb out of the socket with one hand.

Other than that... Pretty damn easy DIY.

I like how the Mercedes hardware is solid. The plastic light cap is not flimsy. The harness is also more substantial than other car makes. That kind of little stuff is what makes me even more satisfied to have a Mercedes.

On even more of a tangent, the engine bay is relatively clean since the last engine wash 20,000 miles ago. Any other car make, and the engine bay would have been caked with dust and other gunk!

You wash the engine bay? How do you do that? I must agree however it stays pretty damn clean.

I hose mine off every time I wash the car, from the day I buy each car. Once in a great while, I use the same soapy sponge that I use on the exterior. This keeps the engine looking like new forever.

I also have the Sylvania bulbs, but I bought the SilverStar Ultra bulbs, absolutely worth it. Autozone usually had a better selection by me.

I'm too paranoid about doing the engine clean myself. I'm also too lazy to do the proper prep work in coverin electricals and areas that should be lubricated.

So I have a detailer do the engine clean.

Yeah tell me about it. I mean it always baffles me as to why the person who originally bought it (new) would spend so much $$ on the AMG Package, DD Seats, Sun Shades all around, Premium Sound, etc. etc. but no Heat or Xenons?
