Question Audio Issue - 2006 E350 with Premium HK L7 system

Hi to all! and Merry Christmas...........

My wife's car, 2006 E350 w/ premium HK sound, seems to be having an audio problem -- and I can't really put my finger on it. Let me explain...........

When we first got the car, the audio was amazing. solid bass, strong dynamic range, and the Logic 7 sound would envelope you, solid sound from all speakers.

Now, I have just noticed, the sound is extremely flat and shallow, and it seems nearly all is from the front center speaker. I moved balance L and R, as well as the fader F and B -- there is sound coming from side and rear speakers. But, when balance and fader are centered, the front center speaker seems to have just to much emphasis. Also, the bass seems to be weak.

In fact, I delivered the car to the dealer today for a transfer case issue, got a 2007 C280 loaner, and the std audio seems to have more depth and dynamic range than my E350.

What could it be?? amp issue? crossover issue? sub issue?

I am going to call the dealer first thing in the morning and ask them to check it out -- but I believe their response will be, can't find a problem.

I appreciate any advice you can provide!

Ken

You need to specify what, when, where & how this occured, what you are listening to, is ist bought, is it recorded, is it ".wav", is it "mp3", etc. All that info is better to have than just a blank statement: I'm having issues.

I am listening to both purchased CD and burned CD, not wav or mp3. Sorry, don't know the what when and how.........I only know that the audio does not sound near as good as when purchased.

I very rarely drive the car, and have just picked up on this concern.

There are 3 "sound" selections - standard (stereo), voice, and L7. While I don't know much about voice (never selected it), could the software be screwed up? for example, locked on voice (mono and center focused) as compered to L7? In other words, could this be a software issue?

Thk!

One possible solution may be to have them check the AGW for stored fault codes and update the software if needed.

Also is it possible someone reset the unit for "Voice" or "Speech" instead of surround sound with the soft keys?

I have a related question. Are there speakers on the rear deck?
The reason I ask is when fiddling around with the controls, and fade to rear sound only seems to come out of the lower part of the doors. I know I can look, but it just occured to me and I'm not in the car. Do they not put speakers becasue of the rea sunshade?
Mine also sound dull and lifeless. A few days of fiddling with the sound controls and it got better-I also got used to it.

The centre speaker(s front and rear) are for low frequencies. You mention trying fader and L/R but you did not mention if your Bass/Treble settings are in the middle? If the L7 setting isn't wrong, this could be one option.

Ok -- I have reset to each individual setting - std, speech, and L7. I do hear a slight variation in the settings, but, what has surprised me the most is..........

when set in Standard, the front center speaker (above Command) plays as much as when set in L7. I thought standard was Stereo, would play through the door speakers, and not play thru the frt center.

Should standard play through the front center speaker?

Thks!

According to the legend and as I understand it the only difference in L7 will be realized with the two surround speakers #5. LOGIC 7 Components:

1 - Audio Gateway
2 - One center speaker
3 - Four dome tweeters
4 - Four wide-band transducers
5 - Two surround speakers
6 - Subwoofer
7 - Head unit
8 - CD changer
9 - Antenna amplifier
10 - Microphone

Have the dealer check the audio gateway (AGW) software. They may need to update the AGW Sahara version or AGW software.

Hi, I newbee here. Nice to meet you guys. Just bought a 2nd hand E230 (registered in 2009, but produced in 2008. equipped with 18" original wheels -- seems to be a limited version). Anybody knows what audio system it is for my car? Thanks a lot.
