2004 E500 4Matic Wagon Front End Vibration

I have 41k miles on the car-just in the past week, at parking lot speeds, INTERMITTENTLY (of course), whenever the wheel is turned right or left, there is a shimmy/vibration in the front end, along with an ALMOST inaudible grinding sound. Almost feels as the same as the SBC modulation, except when turning the wheel at low speeds...

Before i take it in and have it not do it at the dealer, does anyone have any experience/idea of what this issue may be? 4Matic transmission, maybe? SBC issue after all???

It may be the 4matic transfer case. Service Campaign 20071000004 replaces the transfer case for vibrations when cornering or when parking however, stipulates model years 2005 - 2006. In addition, have you checked the power steering fluid level?

interesting... my 05 makes that grumbling noise when I'm in the parking lot too... kinda reminded me of my 81 subaru 4wd wagon that would do the same thing....

ALthough i'm certainly not a mechanic, but i'm no dummy either; however, after scouring the manual and the engine bay-where the heck is the power steering fluid? I can't see it anywhere!!!

Driver side front of engine. Reservoir is attached to steering pump - follow the v-belt.

Although i haven't spoken to the dealer myself, they called my wife to tell her they have drained the transfer case three times which seems to have fixed it-should they be replacing it? it's under factory warranty and certified preowned hasn't but will kick in...

does anyone have a link to all the service bulletins on the 211, and which is updated as they are released?

In as much as the fluid change(s) may have solved the problem if you are steadfast in wanting a replacement: Your original Transfer Case part number is A2202800300 and is replaced by A2202800600 therefore; the part may have been modified/optimized. If the transfer case serial number is between 115925 and 137342, Service Campaign 2007100004 covers replacement even though it mentions model years 2005 and 2006 in the subject line. If not within this serial number range, request the technician obtain EDAC (MBUSA Enhanced Diagnostic Assistance Center) approval to replace given the original part lists as replaced in the EPC (MBUSA Electronic Parts Catalog).
