Painted front side markers
Hey guys,
This is for you owners that have opted to have the amber front bumper side markers painted. You'll have to excuse me if this seems very basic to you.....But are you keeping the bulbs in (lets say super whites wedge bulbs) and then the light shines through the paint. Meaning it's a matter of taking the housings to a paint shop to have them painted and matched to your bumper.
Or....is it just a matter of having the side markers painted and then leaving the bulb out? That way people cant tell that there used to be a marker there.
Thanks in advance!!!

Get euro impact/bumper strips instead. Much better than painting markers. The bumper strips you can get from MbenzNL on here if you don't get lucky and find at the dealer like I did.

Barry's correct. No bulb or a dead bulb will give a bulb out message on the instrument cluster. If you don't want light, paint the bulb black. Do not put tape over the bulb.

So after your tape melted did you end up turning off via STAR, taping to chasis, or painting. I kind of like the painting idea. Maybe a can of black spray paint.

Mine are painted silver and I have the bulbs in and they do not show through so you're better off leaving them in so you don't have to reprogram everything to reflect the missing bulbs.
The Euro impact strips are the way to go if you want an OEM look, but they are pretty pricey.

Just so everyone understands, when painting over the lens you don't remove the bulb! What's not clear in the previous posts is that there is special paint specifically for this type of application. It is opaque, but the light can still shine through. I don't think you have a huge selection of color matches, but do a google on it. Something like VHT translucent paint or something....

If "they" is the dealer, good luck as the sidemarker lights are a DOT required item. Dealer probably won't touch it. You'll need to find an independent or someone with STAR to do it, STAR is about $15k last I heard so not everyone's got one. You have the same problem with trying to get dealers to lower the car via STAR, not for DOT reasons but they don't like lowering cars.
