Sport's "blue glass" - tinting question?
I plan to have my 08 E550 tinted. My car has the 321 AMG Sports Package so the windows are "blue glass" according to MB.
Is this "blue glass" just tint?
When I go to the tint shop, are they going to remove the blue tint and apply whatever I order or does it go on top of the factory tint?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the molten glass has been dyed in manufacture before casting. I don't know why they bother having a different SKU glass... especially since blue scatters light, making it harder to see details. (Thats why "Blue Blockers" sunglasses are so visually clear. They filter out or block Blue light.)

I have two Merc's and the "blue" glass looks much better then the "green" glass. And the poster is right, in the rain, or wet, it looks even better.

Yes, when I wash my car, you can clearly see the blue glass.
Ok, so just making sure that any tint I buy is going to have to go on top of it. I wonder if that will adversely effect the look of the tint.

Get a big enough sample piece and put it on with tape. Then view it from the in/outside and form your opinion.

I tinted my E55 with blue glass and it doesn't make any difference. Whether the glass is blue or clear I think it looks the same. Don't forget that if you use any kind of metallic type tint that you might get poor reception on your cell phone and such. Don't forget to have the shop install the felt strip in the window sill to prevent scratching the tint. Btw, Madico is a really good tint if it's offered unless anyone else knows of anything new out. I used to tint windows and Madico was the best!

Actually, I was planning on going with this tint called Huber Optik. Read a lot of good reviews about it. Its non-metallic.

Yup, I've googled it and seen pics of it on dozens of cars in various forums. I'm liking it because it blocks heat like very dark tint, but its not a very dark.
I really don't want tint thats very dark.
I've heard nothing but good things about it.

huper optik is awesome, its the standard at or dealer and is visually very pleasing. I would ask about that felt thing as our MB scratched the crap out of the film and had to be redone on the driver side.

Price for the four side windows and rear is $475. Pricey, but going ceramic is worth it IMHO.
I believe Song's is the only authorized Huper Optik dealer in Los Angeles (there is another in OC I believe). But more importantly, Song's does outstanding work. When I asked to see samples of cars they've worked on, I was impressed...all sorts of MB, BMW, Porsche, Bentley, etc.
Ask for Hahn, one of the owners. He is a very cool guy and he did the install on my E63.

Install went smoothly. His shop has moved to another location close to the one below.
Got a cash discount.

I also had my E350 done @ Salvador's shop yesterday. I have used several different tint shops in the past, none even come close to the excellent job he and his crew provided. Had the HuberOptik 40 done. Immaculate install; he has 10 years of working with HuberOptik film. Highly recommended! Correct address is: Perfect Window Tint Inc., 3071 S Harbor Blvd.,Santa Ana Ca.92704,714- 546-1002. Right off the 405 Frwy. just past MacArthur Blvd.
