What would you do...?

My 2005 Lexus LS430 lease is up in July. I've looked at the LS 460 and I like it. However, I live in PA., and my wife is the principal driver of this car. I do like the concept of 4 wheel drive (4 matic) and sometimes snow is an issue here. Although my wife doesn't work, and CAN stay home if it snows, I fondly remember my 1999 Mercedes 3 series 4Matic. It was great around here. Should I pull the trigger on an '08 350 4Matic for her in July, or wait until the '09 which I hear is very different in styling from the '08? OR should I just continue on with the Lexus? She does love the Lexus. What would you do?

I think the W212 will be a 2010 model and will be released early to mid next year. I have heard nothing but great things about the 2007-2008 models and I don't think you could go wrong either way. I don't have any experience with Lexus so I can't offer any advice there as Japanese cars have never appealed to me personally.

tough call...

I own a 2005 E500 4matic with 60K miles on it (my first benz).
My Dad bought a LS460 this year for my mom, which i've driven extensively.

I like the LS460, but i really like my E500 more - primarily for the power / sportyness/solidity (if thats a word ). The LS is so damn quiet however i think i'd get a ton of tickets with it. The E is quiet, but not as quiet or spacious as the LS. Given the weather factor, i have to tell you the assurance of having AWD in the rain and snow to me is the kicker (remember - you have 4 wheels keeping the car and driver connected in the rain as well!). The benz is just rock solid, feels safe, and i never feel like i could lose control of the car. I haven't driven the LS in the snow but i highly doubt that i'd ever have the same feeling in a RWD car as I do on my 4matic.

I probably haven't helped you any but there's my 2 cents!

You can't go wrong with an E Class 4 Matic. I live not too far from you and would not have anything else. Having driven the Lexus its my opinion that the E class MB is a better ride. I am on my second one. Also the model change will be for 10 and most likely available in mid to late 09. I had planned for an 09 but I may wait till 10.

I'd say the E Class is the way to go

We had an 01 GS 300 , my wife loved it. Then we got an E 320, she thought the car was light-years over the Lexus in every respect

Now we have the E 350 4 Matic and love it. We live in the Mid-Atlantic so snow and bad weather can occur. While we never had any problems with the E 320 and bad weather, the 4 matic has already paid dividends.

I became a firm believer in all wheel drive cars when I bought an Audi, that car would go through almost anything. So my logic here is that the 4 matic should perform as well in similar situations.

My two cents is that while the LS is a nice car, there are other cars in that price range that I would rather own.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the input. I tend to agree that the Lexus LX430 is so quiet that you don't even know the car is running. It does take away the feeling of driving. I love my SL500 and enjoy the sensory benefits of driving a Mercedes. I even love my Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI for the same reason. I haven't driven the LS460 yet, but I'm sure it's more of the same.
I was just concerned about having discontinued style for a few years, because it looks as though my next lease when I return this Lexus will expire in July of 2011.

I say looks of wife are far, far more important than looks of car. If your wife uses the car in adverse conditions then this is a no brainer.

Good luck with the decisiion

Where are all the pics of beautiful wives? Is there a special forum? If not, perhaps we can start one.

Well, my wife drove the E350 4Matic today, and we ordered one. Some specs are Black on Black, Leather, Black Birdseye Maple, Premium 2 Package, Sport Package with 18" rims, 60/40 split rear seatbacks, Wood/Leather steering wheel, Ipod integration, Blue Tooth.
I like the look of the lowered sport-tuned suspension.
My wife loved it....and it quickly brought back memories of our 2000 E300 4Matic, only better!
After 2 really "soft" Lexus LS's, this is going to be a pleasure. We were able to locate the exact car, and it's still at the port. We should have it by next week end.
Thanks for all your advice in convincing me it was time to go back to Mercedes.

"Let it Snow.....let it snow....let it snow!"

Now my 500SL will have familial company in the Garage.

Congrats on the new Benz ! My father-in-law's last two cars were Lexus LS'. He loved everything about them except for driving them in the snow. Since we live in New Jersey we do get some snow (significant and not so significant amounts) in the winter. After I've lent him my 350 4matic he's going to be getting one also for winter driving. He said (and I quote): "The car feel like it was on rails while going in the middle of a blizzard". The Lexus LS is a very nice car (never driven it only been a passenger) but the 4matic E is safer in adverse conditions which is more important to me.

P.S.: Pictures of the beautiful car, beautiful wife, beautiful wife in beautiful car would be appreciated (with accordance to forum rules )
