What is best way to get Sat radio hooked up?
I drive 2 or 3 hours a day and here in Chicago there is NOTHING to freaking listen to that I want to hear. (Worst City in USA for Radio!!)
would it be best to just buy a stand alone unit as the dealer quoted me 1K or better for the add on to my 2005 E500.
Anyone have some experience with this that can post?
Thanks

You may want to do a search for either satellite or XM or Sirius. Many people (including myself) have posted ways we have added satellite radio to our cars. Doing a search will give you many more ideas than waiting for a response to your post.
Hope this helps.

I almost pulled the trigger on the $1k install...but I couldn't justify it. I had Sirius in my old car, and was annoyed with the static and dropped signal on my commute. I imagined the same sound quality, after paying $1000. It would kill me.
In the end I got Stiletto 2 from Sirius. I record channels overnight and then listen on my commute the next morning. I can record Howard from 6-8, then grab and go. I hear with crystal clear sound all the way to work. It ain't live, but it works for me.

If anybody spends 1k on satellite radio they're a sucka.....
Try BestBuy, CircuitCity, Conns, Frys and get it installed (hard-wired) with either a FM-modulator or a direct connector....
Search the threads, there's a bunch ov 'em.....

Sirius vs. XM
Does anyone know if Sirius runs any specials on their service?
My former car had XM and I was paying $77 per year- thats half of what Sirius wants.
and after a week with Sirius , IMHO XM receiver was better (had better reception, bigger buffer- it would not go silent under small bridges )

Out Of Control!!
I would pay the extra money to have it integrated into my head unit... I was once one of those installers... I prefer the clean look of no extra unit and the extra sound quality you gain of a fully integrated unit. Besidesthere is no ugly reciever, and you have steering wheel controls. The only reason my ML has an external unit is because it has full service at no cost...

Existing receivers will continue to work, but will only receive content from their respective service provider. Future units will receive content from both Sirius and XM. The subscriber can choose what channels they wish to receive from either service (or a combination of both). This is a good option for those that don't listen to Martha Stewart for example and could care less about weather and traffic in areas they don't live in or drive. They will not have to pay for channels they don't want as they do now. This is why I advise people to hold off or buy a cheap satellite unit off eBay until the newer radios hit the market.
