I hate the highway MPG on these 4matics...

Subject says it all--guess that's just the way it is. Does turning off ESP help? Any other tips?

Thanks,

What are you getting? Turning ESP off won't do anything for gas mileage.

It would help if you would say what you're getting, otherwise how can we comment?

You know what they say...."If you have to ask about miles per gallon, should you own a Mercedes?" There are lots of cars out there that get way better mileage.
You should see the mileage I get on my Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 liter Hemi!

Stan

ps. Just got a 2008 E 350 4Matic, and also drive an SL 500. I usually feel better when I think about gas prices in the REST of the WORLD! But I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Tire pressure and gas mileage

I run 32 psi on all four tires instead of 29/34 psi on my E500 4Matic. I regularly get 24 to 25 mpg on the highway and have seen 27 mpg when driving in the direction of the wind. I get 20+ mpg in overall driving. The 2005 E500 4Matic is rated 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway on the window sticker.

Remember there are a lot more moving parts on the 4matic, your turning a lot more gears, 2 more axles, and 2 more wheels. I have the non 4matic and i get about 29-32 miles highway with AC on and have gone 540 miles on a take of gas.

I get 25 to 26 on the road with my 05 E 320 4M. I think thats pretty good. Around town I get about 20 which in my estimation is good. You have a 350 which may use a bit more however the difference between the RWD and 4M cars is insignificant. maybe .5 to .8 MPG difference. Also the previous poster is correct ESP off will do nothing for you except in some situations create a safety issue.

No ones mentioned "comfort" or "sport" postion of the tranny. That may make a difference.

I have given some thought to gasoline prices lately. I wonder what level of pain is sustainable. Obviously the oil producing countries are pushing a fine line. Alternate fuel vehicles are pretty confining at present. Natural gas would be my next choice. What is the level (in present dollars / gallon) that will restrict you to all but necessity driving, commuting( if mass transit is not an option),food and medical?
I guess it is a sliding scale of return but I think that about $10/ gallon will do it for me. I can guarantee that at that cost our M-B will see a whole lot of garage time. Still, the best out there will not quite render 1/2 of a V-6 appetitie. I have a bike but it only averages high 30's. Even at that I prefer the warmth and comfort of a closed vehicle. What is your gag threshold?

Clinton...the thing that's making me gag is that it's not just the price of oil. We all know that the next round of earnings announcements is going to show the oil companies again with RECORD BREAKING earnings.

I get 14 to 15 in city and 20 in highway.
I get around 17 50/50.

I spend around $150 per week for gas.

I'll still be driving this E500 4M even at $100 per gallon.

So bring it on!:zoom :

I LOVE MY E500 2005!!!!!!!!!

Fast as hell, up to almost 30 MPG on un-interrupted trips, why buy a KIA piece of junk...Every option except 4 matic and Pana Roof. Hell, no need for 4 matic here in Chicago because when it snows the only thing I drive is my 4 wheel drive Geo tracker POS(Piece of ShI#) which FLYS around most big heavy trucks/SUV's. Had it 12 years and just wont die.

E500 4matic mpg...

I drive to/from work, 30 miles each way, avg appx 35mph for the drive.
I consistantly get 20mpg. Straight highway i get 22ish.

That's spectacular mpg IMO, the 350 must be better i would guess.

Thanks for all the feedback--I guess I am getting an average I should be.

Fortunately, I got the same average (well, -1 mpg) from the altima I traded-in, and 17 from my M3 before that...so no major change in overall cost for me (with a heck of a better drive)

The wife' '06 Civic LX on the long drives--42 MPG!

thanks all,
ttsidd
