This is not covered by the Euro on-line manual for an E-class but on the S it comes with Sound system (DVD playback is standard even without Sound system).

Surround sound*

If your vehicle is equipped with the harman/kardon LOGIC7® Surround Sound system, you can choose between the settings LOGIC7® on and LOGIC7® off.
  • Audio DVD* (MLP, DTS, PCM and Dolby Digital audio formats)
  • Video DVD (PCM, DTS and Dolby Digital audio formats)
  • Audio CD
  • MP3
  • Radio
  • PCMCIA
  • AUX

the HK unit does not support DTS, on my Euro COMAND when I switch to DTS on a DVD it will not play the sound.

This is the definition of LOGIC 7 by HK:

An active matrix multichannel audio processing system, originally developed by Lexicon® and now used in several Harman products. It converts, or upmixes, two-channel stereo signals into five- or seven-channel signals, allowing listeners to better experience the surrounding ambient sounds that are already in the stereo mixes. Discrete Logic 7 expands this capability to include upmixes of 5.1-channel recordings to seven channels. All of these systems may have modes optimized for movie and music soundtracks, and for conventional stereo music recordings. It is especially designed to maintain a solid front soundstage, while expanding the perceived ambience beyond the room walls. Automotive versions address the unique circumstances of listening within cars, with special processing, loudspeaker design and placement all contributing to a greatly enhanced listening experience. See Matrix Encode/Decode, upmix.

So from what I understand, LOGIC 7 is like a Surround wanna-be, it decodes a signal and sends it to what it believes is the right location for an enhanced sound experience, but it does not separate the sounds like a true surround system does. It does sound very good IMHO.

Cheers!

Thanks for the responses. I have a few DVD-A discs and I was wondering how they would sound on the Euro COMAND. Not really interested in viewing a DVD while moving, but I do have some concerts on DVD and music on DVD-A that I would enjoy listening to in the car.

I have thought about SAT radio, but the 34kbps just doesn't really do it for me. I admit I get used to it after listening to it for a while, but I can really tell a difference when switching from another source to SAT.

From what I understand, you can keep SAT and DVD capability with the Euro COMAND and 537 trick (if you don't care to wait until the MOST powers down), but even this has been removed with newer software updates, no?

How can I access this, and is it for the Comand only?

Do you find that you use the video portion of your COMAND or after the new wears off you hardly play DVDs? Just wondering if it would be worth the investment...

For me, its a no brainer, I mostly play concert DVD not movies, so it is not a distraction and I like live performances as opposed to recorded material.

It is absolutely worth it for me.

That's what I would want it for. Thanks for the input.
