the on board computer could be off anywhere from 6 to 20 percent. Mine is closer to 20 percent reading higher than the actual mileage.

That was my guess too. Amazing as Mercedes is controlling the fuel flow and knows the distance so accurately.

But why lie to us? Maybe to trick us into thinking our cars are better than they are? Isn't that what got VW into hot water?

I bet they are more accurate after VW debacle.

The 6% misread was the highest I have seen on MB, while on 2008 E320BT it is less than 1%.
Each gauge has it tolerance and having 4 thermometers in my house, each will show different temperature.
I read somewhere that mpg gauge can be calibrated with SD.
