help! what gas mileage are you getting on your w211?
Around town I get 26-28mpg
Motorway I get around 38mpg
Here is a picture the last time I was on the motorway. At the start of the journey I had a out of town drive of about seven miles I think at slow speeds, then straight onto the motorway, cruise control at 80mph.

As a fellow E350 4matic owner who really works at getting good mileage this is hard to believe. My average for the last 1000 miles is 22.2. What are you running your tire pressures at? How much time do you spend on the highway?

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
My very first trip, driving the car from PA where I bought it to Long Island, I had a mpg of 24.x. That's the best I ever got.
Don't get me wrong if somebody can get better mileage out of these cars that would be great. I'd like to know how.

Unfortunately the 4Matic used on your car and my car does eat a lot of gas. The new generation 4Matic on the S-Class and C-Class and soon CL550 is much better on gas. This is because it was designed with the car and also to work with the new 7-speed transmissions.
Tire pressures are set per the gas filler door for under 100 MPH.
I always use premium gas.
However, they are actually the same octanes as in Europe.
Europe uses the RON (research octane number) and the US uses MON (motor octane number). The MON is calculated differently so the octanes are actually pretty equivalent.
Below is an approximate comparison chart, these numbers can vary by as much as 2 grades
RON MON PON
90 83 86.6
92 85 88.5
95 87 91
96 88 92
98 90 94
100 91.5 95.8
105 95 100
110 99 104.5

City--18-19 mpg
Hwy--28 mpg; 4 trips(@75-82 mph), 1,000 miles or better.
Best, Chicago- Sarasota(1200 mi) in 17.5 hrs including 2 stops for fuel&food.
