They are amazing vehicles. That was around town and with a few stops so it did pull down the average speed and average MPG some, but it's amazing that we are getting that kind of MPG out of a large 4-door sedan with plenty of power.

2006 E350
Just picked up an '06 E350 and getting 19.5 for local driving (not bad - speeds ranging from stop lights to 45 MPH here in Cary NC).

Highway mileage has been at least 25-28.

I've been getting between 23-25 mpg combined city/hwy with my 08 E350 4Matic. Of course, I only have ~450 miles on the car.

2003 E CLASS SEDAN
Just recently acquired a 2003 E 320 sedan with 46,000 miles to get out of an American SUV (13-14 mpg at best). First trip, averaged 31.9 highway at 75-85 mph. To work and back (non-highway) average 23.5 daily. In talking to my salesman about the mileage (amoung other things, he used to drive formula one for MB), he said this engine's optimal performance was designed to come at around 86 mph (autobahn speeds). This could explain some of why European drivers may see better mileage. I believe mileage increases as the engine gets broken in. At what point that occurs probably varies by engine type and driving situation. I think if you give it time, you mileage numbers will go up.

no one seemed to pick this up, but the reason you get less milage than others in your E is yours is a 4 matic, and they have the older
5 speed auto, whereas most of the newer 2 wheel drive cars from 07 onhave the newer 7 speed trans which has amazing long gears on 6 and 7
which can allow 30 even 32 mpg on highway if you drive mellow..

those extra gears can make a difference.. which is why merc changed them
to help the MPG numbers average, cause the city is so bad..
