I don't have a 4matic but the MFD says that in the 5600 miles I have driven the car so far I am averaging 22 mpg overall. On a long trip last spring, I averaged 28 mpg on the highway. Most trips around town I average 19 mpg.

Hope this helps.

I make an effort to get good mileage and get 22.3 in mixed driving with my 06 E350 4 matic. It can drop frightfully in town when I'm sitting in traffic. The best i've gotten on the highway so far is an indicated 26.1. Bear in mind that I work at it and have my since start mpg displayed. I look ahead and try to manage my speed such that I stay off the brakes as much as possible. I tend to obey the speed limits and don't hammer the throttle.

My E350 here and with just over 7K miles. This car has gone from 16.4-19.2mpg in the city and sometimes up to 22mpg on expressways. The highest it ever got up to was 27.1 on hwy on a 1hr drive which I'm impress.

I do agree on that, another member here mention to me that my vehicle is capable more than 30mpg on hwys. As of now I have not experience it yet.

For your car 29mpg on hwy is very impressive for a healthy V8

Have you checked your tire pressure? Try running the car at the "high speed driving" pressure for better fuel economy.

How are you measuring? Is the car telling you or are you filling the same way and doing the math using the trip meter and the fuel replaced?

Is a family member sneaking out with the car and stomping on it?

Is someone possibly syphoning fuel? (yeah, a long shot but you never know at 4 bucks a gallon!)

Isn't the EPA estimate for the 4matics 16 mpg city & 22 mpg hwy? Seems like your pretty close to those numbers but would be a good idea to have the dealer take a look at it when you have it serviced. Usually gas mileage suffers when you have all-wheel drive vehicles. My mpg is not much different between city & hwy with my full time all-wheel drive Land Cruiser. To be honest, I wish my suv wasn't full time all-wheel drive so I can get a few more mpg's on the frwy.
As for my E350, the best I've ever seen my car do was 34 mpg but usually it's about 30 mpg hwy. I like the fact that I can drive from LA to SF in a full tank of gas.

Last year when I was driving my (now ex) girlfriends 2006 CLK350, I was so impressed with the mileage I took a picture. Should have same 7-speed transmission. I drove it to work that day and snapped that on the way home.

keep your hway speed to 65 and you will see 22.
bump up tire pressure 6psi front and back.
stop jumping on it
You are running premium,aren't you?

those 350's suck down a bit more fuel to gain that extra 40h.p.

4matics do get worse gas milage then rwd cars but you also have to take into account how old your engine is. Since you said you just got an 08 car I'm assuming you have under 5k miles on the car. If that is the case you can relax; your engine is still in its infancy. You will start getting better and better gas milage between 7k and 10k on your engine when everything has settled.

'07 E350 4Matic Sport w/18,000 miles
37 psi on all 4 corners
all highway miles between 75 & 80 mph.
In comfort mode this weekend down the shore yesterday on the bottom of the tank of 91 octane: 27.1 MPG
Filled the tank up this am before coming home with 93 octane: 26.4 MPG for the trip home.

2 weeks ago, I was getting 19 mpg on the highway, and I was in need of front right wheel bearing replacement. (Repairs made last week) Your 19/highway doesn't sound kosher. Sorry, Bro...

RE: Mileage

Depending on my right foot, I get between 18-20 mpg in suburban stop/go driving, and consistently 28.X mpg on highway trips. 07 E550 with 4600 miles.

Your Mileage will improve. Mine was nowhere near as good for the first 1500 or so miles; I broke mine in gently (drove it like an old lady) for the first 1000 miles, it loosened up after I started running her harder at the 1000 mile mark.

I would also check your tire pressure, I run tire pressure of 34 front/37 rear PSI cold, but check what your sticker inside the gas cap states for your car and try 1 PSI below the highest cold setting.

22-27 Highway

For me, my MPG matters on alot of vaiables:
1. Speed - stay at around 65 without pushing the accelerator to much going up hill and just cruise down hill (another words stay steady on the gas pedal).
2. Temperature - warmer weather always gives me 1 or 2 mpg's better
3. Highway traffic - staying behind cars to avoid driving directly into the wind (not too close .)
4. Tire Pressure - new tires from the dealer were mounted with 28 psi all around, lowered to 26 in front, 29/30 in back (per MB specs (downforce?).
5. Tire Brand - I've only had the factory Conti's on my benz, but my accord v6 got around 26 highway with Mich MXV4, but 23 with no name tires.

To check your highway mileage while you are driving get the display in after start mode and then hit the reset button. It should quickly give you a accurate reading of what your highway mileage is, otherwise if you have been driving in the city and then get on the highway you are mileage will be the average of your trip so far.

Yeah, great suggestion, NUT. Once I'm at cruising speed, I do the reset on the "B" display (current trip). Also helps me pay attention, trying to get the numbers up, and not daydreaming...

It's interesting what this resets the MPG to as a starting point. My E320 CDI starts at 33.9MPG and calculates from there immediately after a reset. My W210 E55 AMG I think reset at 22.x.

Do you happen to know what your car defaults to immediately after a reset?

Interestingly it seems that the V8 engines are getting as good mileage and in some cases better than the V6! Maybe the govt should take the damn gas guzzler tax off the E550!

This also confirms something that my sister's boyfriend told me recently. He has a V8 Mustang (not the current body style) and he insists that it gets better mileage than his previous V6 Mustang. His explanation is that he doens't have to work the car as hard or rev the engine as high for power.
