Radio now dead.
OK, so I took my car to the dealer for a half-hour repair/reset/reflash for that known "radio turns off" problem - result, the radio is now TOTALLY dead, and the car is therefore still at the garage. I think that is day 8 at the dealer's. Dealer has no idea and they have put in a call to MB Canada, and are awaiting a call back.

Update: firmware
OK, so the dealer conformed they wiped the radio firmware but the computer locked up while they were writing the new firmware to it.
There is a known firmware issue by the way: bulleting about it. Anyone with radipo problems, ask for new firmeware (and allow two days
I have my car back now, but without any radio: it is dead. Tomorrow or the day after I will need to bring it to the garage again. 9th day without car in just 4500 km!
Oh, and as a side effect, the motor-operated compartment below the radio no longer operates. Pity, as that is where I keep my GPS - which I need tonight.

Hope Spent
After having had to put my new E320 into the shop for two weeks to replace the SRS module, and after having had to bring my new E320 into the shop for a day to repair the erratic intermittent wipers, my radio has suddenly begun dying on me and I suppose I will have to bring my car into the shop again.

So far 2 people reported the dead radio on this board. I just hope that this is not a common problem among earlier built cars. Please post your radio situation and the remedies.
Thanks,
Chris

Dead Radio
I had on one occasion, and once only, experienced the 'dead radio' phenomenon. The display screen was locked up showing the MB logo ... that was it. I had a short drive to my destination so when I got there, I turned the engine off; pulled the key out; waited a few seconds; then, turned the engine on again. Result: radio worked fine ... go figure!
I haven't been able to duplicate the problem again. :S

I had the same experience as saintvir, at delivery Oct 2, and it cleared itself as the techs removed and replaced the key several times for a reset. It occurred again two days later and also was resolved with a key removal. I called the MB 800 number and got a call back from a manager who had an assigned E500, and he had the same experience which also cleared itself. He had written a trouble report and expected it was a timing issue (my translation: system boot-up timing?). When I had the MB logo screen and no radio, the CD/storage tray button would not open the compartment, nor would Tele-Aid work. It has never recurred in the subsequent almost 3 months.

Right.
This is a known problem and MB has a fix. Ask the dealer to check the fixes!
You are right about the tray not opening either btw.
