What percent to tint windows?
Hey everyone,
I am planning on tinting my windows tomorrow. I can't decide what tint percent to do
i am debating between light 35%, 25% or 15%
On my previous car I had 5% all around and it was dark, but i am trying to keep my w211 on the classy side.
Does it make a difference with the factory "blue" tint when you put tint on top?
Thanks
John

I vote 35%
Go with 35%... I have seen it... not too dark.. not to light.. juuust Right!!!
But pick your tint shop carefully... some do it right, some half-***, and some just flat out wrong!

the glass itself is blue, there isnt a blue film on it...
and i would go with 35% with a ceramic film... it's considerably more expensive but definitely worth the cost (a tint with regular film in the $120-200 range... with ceramic in the $450-500 range)... i also have a sport package (i.e. blue 'tint') and i went with 35% of huper optik and i am completely satisfied... it maintains the elegance of the benz while providing great protection from the sun and privacy...

I just recently tinted my car 18%. Beautiful! i have a 2004 e500 and i usually tint 18-20. This particular time my friend only had 18 in stock so 18 it is. I have many friends with 5% and think its too dark. Where I live it can reach 95 degrees in the summer. 35% is not in my opinion dark enough for really sunny weather. 18-20% allows you to see into the car pretty easily in the day yet leaves it dark enought that it becomes difficult to see into the car at night. Which is what I like. Of course that's my personal preference.
MOST important is the felt strip that must be added to the black rubber window lining in the car door. The interior door panel must be taken apart to have this added. NO mercedes did not bother to add this at the factory. If you were to have your car tinted without adding this the tint will eventually start to scratch from rubbing on the rubber. It could be plastic, but you get my meaning. The guy that does my tint is a personal friend and has been tinting for years. He is very particular about quality. He laughs at the poor jobs he sees all the time. Especially the shops that do not even bother to take the door panel off and end up cutting the tint right at the bottom of the window.
Anyway good luck. Short of going 5% I don't think you'll hurt the look of your car. But 35% in hot climate? You might as well save your money. Of course this is my personal opinion. I'm sure many here have theirs.
