One touch close sunroof question.

Hey guys, I've been searching but without luck so I'm starting a new thread. My sunroof in 2008 E350 with Pano has a one-touch open feature but not a one-touch close. What is that about? Do I need to program it or am I doing something wrong? Thank for the help!

Pano-roof equipped E and S-Class cars do not have one-touch closing for the roof.

mine is a 2 touch open, pano. First touch it opens the shades fully, provided you push the switch all the way.
Second pull it opens the pano.

Thanks for the replies, so this isn't even a programmable feature? How disappointing... I guess MB is saving money on the sunroof auto closing safety device, can't come up with another reason why would they not have it.

True, except that according to another recent thread, the one-touch closing feature has just been added to MY09 W221 cars with pano-roof too (not sure about W211).

Difficult to understand why it was missing so far.

This cannot be about saving money. Why would they save money for the more expensive roof and having it for the basic sun-roof.

But the safety issue is different, I did not check it but I'm sure that Pre-Safe (on W221) closes the Pano-roof too similarly as the basic sun-roof when a risk of accident is detected.

Beats me as well, why have it for the windows but not the sunroof? Weird. Even if the MY09 will have the feature it wouldn't make sense to spend anything more than $10 to retrofit that option and nothing like that will cost so little... guess will have to live with it.

Windows have a safety feature. If something restricts the window while its closing the mechanism stops; this is probably not the case with the sunroof.

The sunroof equally has this safety feature, you cant try it, perhaps not with your head or hand but something else (that neither breaks parts).

The fact that the one-touch closure exists for the basic sunroof but not for the pano-roof sounds odd to me (specifically if they now introduced it also for the pano roof).

Guess we'll never know the real reason why it doesn't have the one-touch close feature.

Yup, that's true.

I also dislike the fact that I have to hold the close button to close the pano roof shade. Even the rear shade is one-touch, up and down...

Add my R500 w/Pano to that list.

The regular sunroof works just like the windows, it slides up and down, but on a horizontal plane. The pano. doesn't work the same way: the back first tilts open (just like how one would tilt open the sunroof), then it slides back OVER the roof (again, unlike the regular sunroof). Also, there is a wind deflector that pops up in the front. I think it has something to do with the wind deflector and the computer not knowing when to stop (which would result with something like the motor burning or something else).

I believe that the new pano. roofs have a different design for the wind deflector, at least on the new C-class because my friend's C300 has a different deflector in the front than mine. Actually, I don't like the look of hers compared to my older design.

This I don't get why it's not one touch . Maybe since it is on the same switch as the sunroof it has something to do with the programming.

it is a safety issue - it has nothing to do with saving money...mercedes even went through the trouble to design a different switch into the overhead control panel for cars with a pano roof compared to those with a regular sunroof.
If one-touch is such a big deal - then just take the current OCP out and replace that for one out of a car with regular sunroof (that actually works on the 211...not on the 203 coupes though)
