$455 Car Battery? !!!!

Has anyone had their battery replaced by the dealership? My car just got the Battery protection conven, temporarily unavailble thingy. Anyways the dealership said my battery could be end of its life cycle since its almost 5yrs old. But my question is a $455 battery? Are they kidding? Is there anything special about their batteries? I check on Kragen its only $89!!

Thats a daaaamned good idea

DO NOT dump some cheap Kragen battery in your Mercedes. I've owned numerous cars and learned my lesson with those cheap *** Kragen batterys. I had an 2004 Audi A6 Quattro that was pretty decked out and I had a crazy system in there (JL W7 subsx2 in dash, head rest screens, Infinity Kapas, amps etc etc) and when my factory battery died I was out of state in Vegas on a Sunday. Kragen threw a battery in the thing and I had nothing but problems. The system was as loud as it usually was a couple of the cars systems started to go hay-wire. The idiots that work at Kragen are not as smart as they seem.

Go factory and keep it that way.

Sounds high, I have not checked the MB price here but it is an AGM battery and it may not be good at all to put in an ordinary one.

I just call roadside assistance and they come and charge me about $120 bucks for a battery AND make sure everything is working with SDS laptop along with being there within an hour. What more do you need?

These batteries should last longer than 5 years. Have you checked the fluid level in the cells?

If you properly top up the fluid in the cells 2-4 times per year with distilled water and charge the battery after doing so (a batter charger will be the best investment you ever made), the batteries will last an extremely long time, probably beyond 10 years,

What I would like to know, on our E500 the battery appears to have a low voltage tap suppling my guess 6 V to something in the car. I have never seen a replacement battery with the extra tap. Anyone else have this, know what it is ?

It can't be original or the wire is something else like a battery sensor wire that some models have. The original wiring does not include any wire tapping to the 6 V potential at the battery. Could you post a photo?

Some batteries have a breathing pipe but that is no wire then.

Batrteries in W211 are AGM--no fluid checking.

I'll take a photo today. Bought the car new so unless the dealer changed the battery at time of purchase it would be the origional battery.

i had a battery issue a few months ago and was quoted $300 to replace with a new battery. i was told that MB actually makes that particular battery, the others just have the MB name on it. I was also told the battery should last 7-8 years (mine is 5 years old). Problem ended up being the in-dash cd player, it ran continously (car was off keys out) and burned its self out too. MB recharged the battery and replaced the cd changer (all for free), have had no problems since...

I have to disagree, I dumped a $89 one from AutoZone 2 years ago in my cousins CLK and one on mine last year and no problems.
