Don't do it. It is illegal to reset the odometer!

dunno

there's probably a battery somewhere but it's not going to be published anywhere.

on a related note, i was on a business trip a few years ago for a few months. since it was a long business trip, i had a rental car monthly. this was back in 1996 and i got a 1996 camaro.

since it was a rental and i was bored, i tried playing around with the internals of the car. i found that if you removed one fuse, it would stop the odometer. the car had an electric odometer and with the fuse removed, it would never increase.

a by-product of removing that fuse was that it would not remember your radio pre-sets.

IMO, this is pretty bad design and way too easy to disable something that drivers should not disable. in addition, a fuse can go out and any time so this could easily happen inadvertently.

my mileage from the rental company was restricted at 1,000 miles/mo and i played with it to see if they would find out. and no, they never did.

there's always rumor about a backup odometer and things like that.

Rock.

While you may deserve to get flamed...I'll still ask. Why do you want to reset the mileage? And are you aware that doing so is illegal?

in the germany law, it is legal as long as you tell your customers.
I am about to export 1 year old W211 to east asia. cutomers are requesting me if i could reduce the mileage so the car looks like brand new.

Regards,

Mike

Tell those E-Asia guys to bug off. No need to deceive future owners, and being unscrupuloius. They should get a new car or treat one right. No doubt they are crooks.

Comon guys! I am sure there are other ways to tell Mike that in YOUR oppinion it shoulnd't be done. Michael has been a long time Mercedes owner and I know him personally. Just because you lot don't agree with him, doesn't make him a dishonest person. If odometer laws in Germany and Asia differ from the US why should he not do it if his customer requests it, after all he is disclosing the facts, and I know in Germany it will be printed on the German equivilant of the title so any subsequent buyer will know of the odometer reset.

Tell it straight. DONT beat arround the bush. No need to explain but I will. Reputation is destroyed. No one trust anything coming from dealer who tampers with odometer. Written or unwritten. Broken law or unbroken law. Perhaps customer is testing sales reputation. Tell the customer trying to deceive to bug off.

I believe you must have a StarDiagnostics connection to change mileage.

pretty dishonest to do something like that, but i think if you do it then it will be considered a TMU car....which means a true milage unknown car and Im sure the star diagnostic system on the car will catch it.
