09 E - reverse auto tilt down pass mirror is still dealer activated options

I use to have this feature on my older E and other BMW. Reading this forum found that this option became dealer activated. Is that changed for 09? Do I need still asking a dealer to activate the feature at delivery?

I think so. I just took delivery of my 09 and it is not active. The folks on the phone assist say some dealers cana ctivate. I am 2 hours from the dealer so i will have to wait a couple of months to see.

I think the passenger button for the mirror adjustment has to be pushed in. At least that's how my mom's w203 works :o

Yes, that is what the manual says to do. I followed all of the instructions, several times, and it would not tilt down. i talked to the folks on the 800 number and they said it had been "decontented". I asked them if the dealer could restore it with STAR diagnostics and they said some could.

I just did on mine yesterday. Here's what to do:

on the screen when you see SETTINGS, press the Reset button once and scroll thru arrows on the steering wheel till you see CONVENIENCE

Now change the screen to explore convenience options: one of them is the mirror parking aid, use + or - on the right side steering wheel buttons to enable it.

Would start working ...

I have an 06 E350, so it should be there in an 08!

Supposedly this menu is now disabled on 2007 models and above, however it can be re-enabled by the dealer using STAR (their diagnostic system/tool). Apparently from what I understand is that people didn't know how it works (you have to have the right mirror selected on the driver door before the function works) and things like that was what caused their customer satisfaction surveys to plummet, thinking they had problems with their car. Therefore, any feature that was questionable they disabled and this was one of them. Also, I think part of the easy exit function was disabled (where the seat retracts to allow more room to get out of the vehicle when the key was turned off).

Not correct. Please reread the forum. I've got a MY07 and it was available; its a build date issue and NOT a MY issue.

Set it our '06 and then turned it off--it's useless. Backing up is not facilitated by watching your tire.

My 06 E350 4Matic has this feature. It comes in handy when I want to park as close as possible to the curb without rupturing the sidewall.

As mentioned before, elsewhere... set driver # 3 to exact same as driver # 1, then move curb side mirror down & re memorize driver 3. If you need the mirror look down simply press Driver 3 & when youre parked hit driver # 1.

Other folks use driver # 3 as the exit position. (Seat back wheel up & in)

I think driver 3 as the exit position is more useful as it gets used everytime the vehicle is used. I'd like to have the mirror function per the manual so i will try with my dealer next time I am in there.

Great idea on using driver 3 for the rearview mirror. Have it on our 07 SL and I miss it on our 09 E350. I will program it in the morning.
By the way since I can watch dvd on the nav screen only when parked, I slipped in a dvd with Three Stooges shorts to watch since I'm not gonna sit in the car for a whole movie.

I'd been using this method until yesterday: brought the car in for Service A and just off hand asked the service adviser to check with the tech about the coding through STAR and when I got the car back, it was done with no charge!

Nice to have the feature back again as it was on my '04 SL500, a minor detail but a convenience feature that's great to have.

I can understand why MBUSA 'decontented' this feature if their satisfaction ratings were lowered in part due to the owners' misunderstanding of how this function works.

It really pisses me off that the fact that stupid people who can't read manuals are the reason that MB is forced to remove features from their cars.

Its not only that. There are times when the mirror returns to the upward/driving position, and doesn't return to the exact preset position, which meant that after you noticed that the mirror was off position you had to press the Driver # 1 button to coax the mirror to the exact preset position. This prompted complaints about it not working properly.

Test yours... after it returns to the up position by itself, if you press the Driver # 1 button & the mirror moves, you have the problem too. It was a "more often than not" thing in my '04.

It can mean only that mirror mechanics wasn't engineered right. It works perfectly accurate on my older E, so I guess inaccurate positioning just result of cutting cost.

Is it possible for you to find out from your SA what the steps are? Or if you don't mind, maybe telling us the name of your person there so that I can have my SA call him? My dealer still keeps telling me that it is not possible.

Driving me nuts.

BTW, I do have memory 3 set up that way but it is a bit annoying to keep doing it manually when it can be done automatically. I had it on y 04 and miss it dearly.

Thanks.

I can't test it unfortunately. Even though the manual says its possible, it is clearly deactivated in my new car. I will have to take it in.

I had the same issue with my car-- the feature was not activated in my car. I had the car at the dealership today and was told that it was not a feature in my '08 E350!!! The service advisor asked me why I even thought this was an option and I told him: "I read it in my owner's maunal. I followed all the steps outlined several times and couldn't get it to work." He told me it wasn't standard anymore and that my owner's manual was printed in 2007. Umm.... he is lying to me or is this true?
