Red face Upgrade your black FOB to Chrome FOB

Just upgraded my nasty, boring black key OFB to new MB Chrome "Blade". $250 out the door. Key-less Go worked from day one, just have to insert (one time only) the Blade into the receptable for security clearance.

Just call your local dealer with your VIN and they will tell you if you can upgrade to the Blade.

You mean the new Chrome Key? I thought about doing the swap but I dunno, I kind of don't see a big "improvement" in the new Chrome key, I kind of like the simple Star on the back of the old one and the buttons on the other side. Plus it feels lighter to me? Also the chrome gets dirty smears from our human greasy paws it seems too

I'll probably wait until I might lose one of mine or something to get it. $250 seems a bit steep for just a key

I do not like chrome keys look. Is there a way to remove chrome parts and later return back since I lease my car?

You cannot swap the circuit board from a chrome key to a black one (or vice versa obviously). You can always code a new key and have it removed from the list of authorised keys later but the key would remain useless (except a spare cover for another chrome key). Also one less key that can be coded to this car if keys get lost during its life.

I have both and the black one is smaller which I prefer since keyless go is in my pocket all the time

FOB is another name for your key
Blade is the nickname given to the new chrome key(fob)

I don't think you can retrofit keyless-go. Even if it is technically possible, it would probably cost the equivalent of the G.N.P. of a small country. It's just not economically feasible.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until I have a few beers in me and somebody on here pisses me off.

Or if I haven't gotten any stink on my hangdown in a few days, that brings out a wild side in me too.

You are still jovial despite your current situation. This was the type of writing the poster above was referring to. I applaud that......
