True Pic of '08 Nav Screen From Brochure ?

Attached is a screen shot of the Nav Screen from the 2008 E Class Brochure. The color of the map is in shades of bright blues and bright reds. Is this truely the colors that appear on the screen? In my '07 and older '04 the colors look nothing like that. My map colors are drab shades of grays, not bright modern NAVI map colors.

I always thought that while we have nice color LCD display screens in the car, the map colors chosen for display are terrible. ...Just curious.

Probably a dressed up picture to make buyers bite, I am amazed at the incredibly lame graphics our nav systems have. I have sold Denso (Kenwood, Nissan, Honda) and Garmin systems that are light years ahead in graphics, operation and information available (were even in 2004). No birdseye view, no way to search by name (regardless of category) makes the system look like my first 8086.

MY09 has improved navigation, it even shows gas station logo on a map. However background color is still grayish. A naviagation screen's shown correctly in 09 brochure. I think problem is that gray color is used for land, blue for water, and green for parks.

On the new one at least you can configure the POI classes that appear on the map. It may look like a more advanced unit if it shows a lot of info on the map but after a while you find it is just confusing and distracting. On the other hand you did not even claim the lexus was better.

Its really funny... choosing better map colors for the display would have gone a long way towards making the NAVI look much more advanced than it really was. I don't know how they didn't use standard map colors... Sand for land masses brown to show a little textutre, light blue for water.... I've never seen a map in shades of gray. ...and dotted lines for RailRoad tracks? (-----) they should have at least been ( ++++++++ ). Oh well... its ancient history.

can using a newer version Navi DVD provide the "better" experience?
or, is this more a function of the screen itself?

Its not a function of the screen.... its a color monitor. Its a function of the colors Navteq chose when they "drew" the maps.

Thats why my question was if it was a true representation of the map colors, because that would mean that the later DVD used different color maps & might be a reason to upgrade to a newer DVD. Since the general concensus is that it is an "enhanced" photo of the screen color corrected for the brochure to look more modern, theres no reason for me to upgrade to the newer DVD.

So its apparently no different in appearance in real life than in my 2007.

My experience is that worse than the colors, and they are terrible, is the

absolute lack of good navigation tools.

I was in another town that I am unfamiliar with and tried to get the navi to go to POI from "current position" and was appaled that the damn thing came up with a town 1500 miles away. BTW I was in Baltimore, not some podunk town that may not be on the map.

Maybe they ought to source the system from Honda.....

I wonder if the pre-09 COMANDs can be swapped out for the 09 version?

you're all wrong...mine looks like this all the time because you can choose to have it set on night mode or day mode, which changes the colors on the screen...since I like the color coding on night mode, which is what is depicted below, I have set my NAVI to default to night mode...From there, you can just play with the brightness of the screen!

The only difference between night and day views is that the colors are inverted. Whatever is white on the display in Day is Black when set to night... and vica versa. Its like looking at a negative. Red is still red though
