V-Belt Replacement
I looked at previous posts especially this one (https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...highlight=belt). But I still couldn't figure this out. Mine looks different than the one on the previous pic.
Can someone tell me which one is the tensioner pulley and how to pull it down?

I should have mentioned that both 2 idler pulleys were changed out by the dealer, but they refused to put a new belt on citing not covered under warranty. That's when I decided to change the belt. I've done it a number of times on my Bimmer in the past and thought it would be the same.
I figure #2 is the tension pulley, but I can't get it to move down. The screw just keep coming off instead of pulley coming down.
Just "diving in" to do mechanical work on a 21st century car--especially a Mercedes--is the height of folly.
Mercedes very conveniently provides you two methods to have the proper service procedure documentation at hand before starting--which is the only intelligent way to do it.
1. Service DVD--call 800.for.merc
2. Startekinfo--subscribe for a day and download all the procedures you want. http://www.startekinfo.com
Using procedures provided by Mercedes will tell you how to do the job and advise you of required special tools if any. The Model T era is well and truly over.

I Thought the same thing Bestoverall did.
The tork screw would be the place to move the tensioner. Otherwise it is very tight to get behind the tension pulley. On some are a square boss area that you can put a wrench on,, but I haven't found that on our E500.
Belt change is do soon,, but not yet.
Can someone confirm?

good thing you posted this i gotta do mine too
The E500 hex point can't be seen easily as in your pic.
because it is hidden by the beltThe Hex you show in pic 1 in the bottom right is the hex which is a tork point. This is where the tork wrench is used to pry the tension pulley. If you use the boss shown in your pic 2 I am not sure what might happen if you pry on it.
From the Manual
Remove the belt by
Do this by using the torx recess below the
tensioning pulley (3) and swivelling in an anticlockwise
direction (arrow).
Take off poly-V-belt (1) and decelerate
tensioning pulley (3).
Found the torx on mine,, not easy to see on the E500 because it is hidden under the belt

The whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Now once you know how to take the belt off, changing idler pulleys would be a piece of cake. Just a screw or two, and off they go. (for those out of warranty and need to change the pulleys due to noise).
