NAV system availibility
Hey, my dealer think that that NAV/GPS WILL NOT be available if i order my E500. Has anyone else heard of MB not equipping the E with the NAV system--not even wiring for the system later---i am getting dealer info that the NAV is put on hold for now--any help would be great Thanks
well, it might not be, the NAV is coming out in feb/march i guess, so your car might not come with it, but be happy, if you order it, you get 500 off the price because it isnt available. and the wiring will be all there, when the NAV comes, the dealer will retrofit it for you
Currently we estimate Feb/Mar production for the COMAND/Navigation system on
the E-Class.

Anyway, I have put it in writing with my dealer just to be safe, so it is more later, he has to cover it.

Here's what my dealer told me:
"The latest news from Mercedes-Benz places Navigation around spring time for installation. We have had conflicting reports from Mercedes-Benz, all vehicles being produced from Jan1 on will not have Navigation pre-wiring. I believe there must be a supplier issue, so the time frame has moved from Jan 1 to May/June.
I will keep you posted."
Certainly not good news for all of us waiting for the Nav system.

I think the most frustrating thing is the absolute silence by MB on this issue. Those of us that prepaid for the units still have no description of what we bought...just some guesses based on sites in the UK and Germany which may or may not be the same type of unit we will get. We have only been told 2 things as far as I know:
1. It is DVD based
2. It replaces the radio module.
If the no more pre-wire turns out to be true, then MB should at least give out some information. We are even getting conflicting information at this late date as to when it will be out. Surely they would have to know in January if it was going to ship in February.
It does strike me as complete disregard for their customers.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
- Nav system retro available March +/-
- Pre Jan '03 build are pre-wired to accept Nav unit
- New build defualt is not to pre-wire for Nav, dealer or customer must specify on each order to obtain this capability
- Cost not yet established, but referred me to Nav options on other models for guidance
I did put my name on waiting list, #10 in line. Others may considering doing the same.
This is a feature that I am really looking forward to having (to replace the handheld Garmin III+ I have on the dash), but unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot we can do about it.
Given the command electronic problems I have seen posted, I'd prefer that MBZ do get this feature correct, so when users do upgade, it has high probability of success and working properly. I'd rather wait 1-2 months, than be faced with 3-6 visits to the service center.
