I believe the size is 245/45/17 on the original wheels?

We use the Pirelli SottoZero for winter in Europe, they are very good.

During last winter, my car had Michelin Pilot Alpins. With two bags of sand (25kg each) in the trunk and the snow tires, my car performed like it had all wheel drive. Through deep snow up in the mountains, slush and on ice, the car's handling was very good. I highly recommend the Michelins.
These tires are also excellent in the rain (better than my "summer" Conti ProContacts). They are quiet and they do not seem to have a significant effect on fuel economy.

I've used 225/55/16 tyres on my E320CDIs.

Stu Ritter's recommendation: Nokian Hakkapeliitta R
(Stu Ritter is an independent MB service facility in Denver.)
Might be a bit difficult to find, but well worth the trouble...

Ditto - only my Michelins were on my stock 18" wheels, in the stock tire size setup.

For another data point, I have a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M3 mounted on a set of 18" wheels (aftermarket) and they were great in the snow and icy situations last winter here in NY/NJ.

I think the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D also has fitment for the W211 E-class.

This is the first time I've used Dunlop winter tires and they were impressive. Previously, I've used the Bridgestone Blizzaks before (both while living in Toronto and here in NY/NJ) on three of our cars (one Audi Quattro and two BMWs with RWD) and they too were very good in wintry conditions - and I've just ordered another set for my wife's Honda Odyssey Touring minivan.

Being in Montreal (especially after the last winter you had!) I'd seriously recommend a set of snow tires. If you have questions about fitments, check out TireRack.com and they have great information on their database for winter tires on your car.

Nokians all the way. We've had them on an E36, R170 (yes, an R170 in the snow!) and a S211 and in each case they've been great.

I second the Dunlop Winter Sport M3's....in terms of being able to pull out of the snow, these made my car better than my old ml.

Had the wintersport M2s on my wife's lexus rwd, really liked them. I have the latitude x-ice (michelin?) for my rwd work vehicle and they suck as much *** as possible.

I too have had the Hakkapeliitta's recommended to me. Maybe this year.

LoL at the two bags of sand. It's a great idea for getting more traction that I hadn't thought of before, but that's because I'm in California.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Jump

on them and drive across the border.
Close out $98 great winter tires
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=7

if you step down to a 215/55/16 on a w210 rim with the proper lugs look for a set of blizz already mounted in like new condition from a member that is selling them off a w210 model the 215/55 size is much better in the snow on winter tires.
