However, they are fragile as hell. Driving on the pothole-filled NYC streets I replaced a total of 3 front tires in the last year.
Thats why I actually refused the W-rated tires that are supposed to come with the E500 sport. They are supposed to be even more fragile.....

My 2001 C240 came with Continental tires. I don't like them at all.
First, the Continental tires are noisy. Secondly, although it is "Touring" rated, the ride is still very stiff with the tires fitted. I could feel every bump on the road.
The only good point about Continental is that they seem to last a long time. My car has 35,000 miles and I think there is still 20% thread life left on the front tires and 30% left on the rear tires. I think they could last another 10,000 miles. Very good!!
If you want quietness and good ride (comfort), I would recommend Good Year or Miichelin Energy MXV4 Plus. The Good Year and Michelkin are far quieter than Cointinental, especially on rough pavement.
Just my opinions!!

All the W211 (both basic and sport package) that I have seen so far in Vancouver are equipped with Continental ContiTouring Contact CH95.
I have concerns over Continental ContiTouring Contact CH95 and plan to switch to Michelin Pilot Sports A/S when my E500 (w/ sport package) arrives should I decide to stick with the 17" 5-spoke wheels.

I have the ContinentalTouring Contact CH95 on my E500. I can confirm that they are noiser than I would prefer. They are rated M+S so that may be the reason. They are not loud like a big tread tire but the tires are the only road noise I have so I can sure hear them.

I have had the conti's on a few cars and like the tires. They are a good combination of ride, handling and performance and I think they feel good on my e500 w/sport.
The Mich Pilot A/S's referenced above are great tires but much more expensive -- $218 / tire vs $108 / tire for the Conti's. Better tires but not twice as good (IMHO).
You can do a great comp on tirerack.com

From what I can tell so far its decent tire.
I was anticipating the W tires promised with the sport package on the web site, but once I found out about the wear ratings I was happy to leave the H tires on.
Some other contis I had (the OEMs on my '98 C280) had really crappy wear.
Not very sticky, but its M+S which too me is more important. They still grip well in the rain. Don't know about the wear yet (only 2700 miles).
Seems pretty quiet to me but that could be the car.
Until I've tried something else its hard to say.
Has anyone switched them out for something else with the same size? Comments?

I have a 2006 E500 4matic Sport with 30,000 miles and the ContiTouringContacts generate a tremendous amount of road noise particularly at 20 mph. It could be the age and wear but there is ample tread (I use winter tires). With all that we have riding on the tires, there is no way I would buy them again. Buy the best tire for your application. It's not worth skimping.

2009 E350 with sport package. Different size front/rear setup so tires can't be rotated. I got a respectable 30K miles on the rears. Fronts look like they will go another 10K miles but the low speed noise started about 5K miles ago and is very annoying. Looks like fronts will get replaced early.

I have run them on my previous 1997 E300d, on my VW Passat (until they discontinued that size) and now on my 2006 E320. I like them overall. They are reasonably priced, last a good while, and have reasonable dry/wet traction. I am not a big fan of tire rotation, I would rather replace in pairs then 4 at a time. I typically got 2 summers out of a pair of the CH95s on my 1997, and same for the Passat. I rotate once a year, at snow tire change over. Most of my mileage is highway and they wear fairly evenly by themselves. I also believe the best tires need to be on the front (RWD/AWD cars), this is contrary to the "new way" of thinking. Front tires have much more demands than rear as far as braking, and steering and water displacement. Its much more easy to recover a rear end breaking loose than it is to correct understeer. My all time favorite tire is the Michelin MXV4. They are quiet, smooth and wear like iron. However they suck in the snow.
