Got the wood steering wheel finally, and...

I know it's been said MANY times before, but it really does make the interior!! I hate to sound cliche, but it's amazing what a stupid little wood wheel does to the rest of the wood trim, and I think it's mostly because the black birdseye is hard to see in the charcoal interior, so this really brings the wood out by adding dimension to it. Fantastic!

I plan on posting pictures very soon - hopefully today - of the entire collection...

(Even my wife, who is not detail-oriented whatsoever when it comes to cars, said it made a HUGE difference)

Anyone want to buy a brand new E500 leather steering wheel?

Congratulations I agree. As to the old leather wheel, I am keeping mine. Perhaps I will be getting another E500 and will avoid paying for the wood wheel again!!!

not the best shots - just a few 'quickies' (weather is too overcast today for good colors and such)

more than identical - they take the center part of your steering wheel out of the old and put it in the new! If you have your fingerprints on the horn, they are going on your new wheel as it is just a shell

Mike: the controls are on a part that is not changed. When I got the old wheel back, it didn't have the center part with the controls. On the sound of the leather wheel, I agree. It does seem to make a "sliding" sound. I prefer the feel, look and sound of the wood. It is worth it.

Now THAT

...Now THAT is a photo anyone would be proud to take.

All three of your sleds are looking pretty damned good!

PS--When I take that Boxster test drive, I need to look at that wood wheel too. I hate the squeak my leather one makes when I run my hands through it during turns.

Joe - no squeak, just your hands sticking to the wheel - pretty sweet.

We do need to arrange that Boxster S test drive, don't we? Got a baby on the way any day now, so it's on hold for now...

I ordered mine 10/7 and it arrived 10/28. The cost was $850 plus tax; installation was free.

I had them apply the days in which I paid for the E500 that I didn't have it, and it amounted to about a $240 credit toward the wheel, so it cost about $420, then installation was $87

Wood steering wheel - Heated?

Question - does anyone know if one was to upgrade from leather to the wood combo steering wheel, if the new wheel is pre-wired so that the heated steering wheel option willl work?

you mean without the heated steering wheel option itself? If you have the heated steering wheel, then one would assume if you change to wood, you would still have it, but if you do not at this time, it probably doesn't automatically add that feature. Isn't there a switch for the heated steering wheel anyway or does it just work in conjunction with the seat heaters?

Heated steering wheel

I do have this option, and with the standard leather wheel. And I do like this feature on cold mornings. It is not functually tied to the heated seats.
The reason I asked the previous question, is that if I change the wheel to the wood combo, I'd still want the heated steering wheel to be operational. Just part of my decission making process.

I understand that with the wood wheel, only the leather portion is heated. Not sure how you can find out if your existing wiring just plugs into the new wheel.

Someone on the forum did post about this sometime ago. Maybe they can help with the question.

Stone & Black Bird's Eye Pic?

Based on the pics I've seen, in addition to the very positive comments from those who've installed the wood steering wheel, I'm going to order one.

I tried this a few weeks ago with no response, but I'll try again:

Does anyone have a pic of the wood wheel with black birds eye maple and stone leather?
