Reverse Cam fitment?
Reverse Cam fitment?
Guys,
I desperately need to fit a rear view cam as I have been bumping the car all week.
I have managed to get a kit that has a camera that's about 1.5-2" long and about 1.5"+ in diameter.
Now where would you fit the camera? Bumper? The boot panel? What about the License plate then?
If I had a black car the bumper would be ideal, but on a white car, i'm assuming it would look like a scar!

ok..the camera is too big and awkward to fit anywhere.
Back to square 1.
I would love to have a rear camera integrated into the COMAND but I know a $100 camera ain't going to cut it.
What else would I need, and why is, what I need so expensive?
Also, how would the auto on when reverse is activated work?

Rear Camera Install
As I stated in my e-mail - Suggest you contact Mid City Engineering (312) 421-1114, and talk to TJ. They also have the small camera that I used which is almost identical to the factory. I believe it is a Kenwood. You can also go to their web site: http://www.midcityengineering.com/
With my camera installed, when I shift into reverse, the Command screen shows the rear view, then when you shift back to drive, whatever you had playing returns - Seamless.................

Hi Madelko,
Thank you for the reply. I did exchange thoughts with the very prompt and courteous TJ at Mid City.
The thing is I live in Bombay. The unit is about $750+, shipping about $85, taxes, duties another 30% on top, so the cost to me goes over $1,300! That's a bit too expensive for me.

Duty was a circumventable issue once, but now the collectors have wizened up and it is proving difficult for the lower value declaration. the duty would be 30-40% + all kinds of b&*@!&it added, so a $300 item could very well end up costing double!
I just felt paying $12-1300 was a bit much for the reverse cam..
