Very glad to hear that you and your family survived a very ugly accident.

I would thank the safety engineers at M-B.

If I believed in angels and that other stuff I would hope that my angel would keep me out of an accident in the first place.

Mb's are very safe, i remember a friend to me bought a c280 as first car insteed of civics and other GTI cars all friends was buying.

One night he was driving very fast with it.. almost 200 km/h

witch most be like 120 mph for u? or something.

well, he did loose controll of the car and flip it 5 times on 150 meter before it stop.
You should see the car after that.

The only thing happend to him was he did breaked one bone!

At the hospital the doctor did say it was lucky for him he was driving the benz insteed of civics and etc witch other teens does.
The car prop have save he's life.

Wow, that's amazing you guys were kept safe and came out of it okay. Very cool.

These cars perform amazing in frontal and rear collisions.

Unfortunately according to the IIHS tests, they don't perform as well as we would hope in Side Impact Tests.

Thanks again for the well-wishes, thoughts, and prayers. As my signature now states, I made the expensive decision to protect my loved ones by buying an S550 4Matic. It is a superb vehicle which is very safe, but I pray that my family and I do not test out any more crumple zones or air bags!!!!

I'm sure the comment was supposed to mean that one can feel a lot safer in an MB than many other cars.

There was a reference to an E-class crash where the driver did not survive. He hit a truck at an autobahn, the speedo had jammed after the crash, showing 250 km/h.

A bit of good luck helps, a good deal of bad luck (not referring to the above case, that is not a question about luck) can hurt on an MB too. But you don't have to rely on luck as much on an MB than an average car for sure.

The main point anyway is that the OP and his family are OK, that was very good news!
I believe this is the accident that you are refering to?

At 1:12 you can see the jammed speedo at 210 km/h.

Very happy to hear you and your family are okay. This is also the main reason that I am looking for a W211 style E55. I want a car that is bank vault safe and solid for my wife and I and our upcoming first child, and Mercedes has that reputation. The funny thing is that your post of this incident is like a sign for me. After I looked into (2) previous E55s and the experiences went horribly last week (culminating in a 10 hour drive to see a car that was NOT as represented by the seller), I had kind of given up. I figured that it was a sign that maybe I should not get one right now. That maybe a Mercedes was overkill for my needs and I was just being paranoid about accidents. Then last night I found another E55 that is actually much closer to me than the previous (2), and this post of yours reporting how safe it was for your family, and it all seems to make sense. While I hope that we never have to use the safety devices like you did, I am glad that you and your family were protected in such an accident. I wish you all a quick recovery.

Meeyatch, what I found out from this Motor Vehicle Crash is that safety for your family is truly priceless. The integrity of safety is a key reason I have owned a Mercedes for the past 22 years (I am 48). If you spend a few more thousand on a Mercedes, then you are really buying extra protection for you and your loved ones. It is like insurance; you hope you never have to use it, but it would be foolish to be without it.

Best wishes on your decision and potential buying process, and thanks again to all for the wishes and prayers for a quick recovery!
