Sunglass Holder

Do these bozos at Mercedes Benz ever use test anything? I kind of chuckled when I saw the irrateness on this forum about the cupholders, but now that I have my car and have looked forward to using the very convenient sunglassess holder, I am very pissed that not one pair of sunglasses I own will fit into the compartment!

Do people in Germany use two monacles instead of sunglasses?

Actually, I just bought a set of Calvin Klein Titanium sunglasses and they fit just fine. Some of the others I tried with the "wrap around" were too "bulky" to fit... but these look good, and fit very well.

Just keep looking...

Peter

Would you buy me a pair Calvin Klein Titanium sunglasses too?
I could put them in my sunglass holder and be cool:p

Even monocles would hardly fit - I agree, this is an inappropritely small compartment. I too have trouble knowing wher eto store my sunglasses - not in the sunglassholder, that is for sure.

:)

I just throw my cell phone in there when I'm in the car. The only sunglasses I own that would fit in there I don't even wear anymore (Wayfarers).

A garage remote will fit in there also, esp. if your integrated home link is a POS like mine

Actually, sure Etenn. lol! Then you can be almost as cool as me. =)

Seriously, these I picked up were like $89 at Pearl Vision. They had similar frames/glasses in a similar style that would also fit but were stainless steel , or plastic, graphite. etc... I like these becuase I have a Titanium fetish (I have some r/c cars done up in titanium and it lasts forever)

The key is a "rigid" frame glasses frame and a "low profile" lens. The wrap around sides and the larger diameter lenses will not fit.

You could always use the drawer for a cell phone, pager, or as a "skin box" like Goldmember has.

There are some sunglasses we have that will fit and some that won't. I am sure that some people will find alternate good uses for the space, such as: cigars (I don't smoke); change (if you are driving by yourself, just try to safely reach the coin holder in the glovebox when approaching a toll booth!!!); torn up traffic tickets (especially if yours is an E500!!!); tire pressure guage; pens; etc.

Joe - is your garage door opener Intellicode (Genie)? If so, there's a couple of extra steps you need to do in order to get it to work. I can help you out if you need it. The garage door opener will say intellicode as will the remotes...check it out.

Unless you are a smoker (and in that case I can't help you yet) the ashtray space is EXCELLENT for storing sunglasses of all shapes and sizes. Just remove the ashtray and put the rubber mat in and you are good to go. I haven't figured out anything usefull to put in the 'sunglass' holder since it is so tiny.

I actually did put my sunglassess in the ashtray (yes, its been a split here on the forum but I am opne of the lucky few that got the really cool ashtray insert. But that space is not the best of fits for sunglassess, although they do work their way in there.

I guess I am really missing the evry convenient space I had in my 98 e320, the slot below the dash with the door, that flipped up - I guess I would still have that if I did not order the CD player.

Anyway, Mercedes, if you are listening, if you are going to build a specific sunglasses compartment, next time it might be a good idea to design it so it accomodates more than 5% of the sunglasses on the market ...... a good idea maybe, Herr Schrempf?

I own a 2003 clk 320 where is the sunglass holder on the E class. The sunglass holder in the clk 320 is in the glove compartment and my ray-ban fit fine. We dont have the removable ashtray to have the extra storage like you have in the E class.

Thanks brah, but it's not a Genie, it's a LiftMaster. I can make it work, it just works *****ty (have to be real close to it, have to really hold it down, have to hit it repeatedly sometimes, PITA).

My wife is a real estate broker and uses it for business cards—just perfect!

Hahahah! I left my sunglasses in the

compartment when test driving the E-500. I even told the salesman, "Please don't let me forget my shades..."

I had to go back later that night to pick them up. Revos fit just fine.

I also use the ashtray area for my sunglasses. If the sunglass holder was .25 inch taller my sunglasses would fit!
