Claims to be a member of this forum and was interested in buying my car

email: "Luster Dogfild" <lusterdogfild020@yahoo.com>

this is what he wrote:
Hello dave, we have concluded, making the payment
Thanks for your email and update on the bottom price($23,000),it was
accepted by my clientand he has directed us to issue payment to you. I
would need your assurance that the property whose payment we would start
processing,is in a good condition as the only view our client had of the
vehicle was on the internet and this purchase is hinged on his personal
judgement of what the property's state and output would be like,in
comparison to models of its category. However,he made out a certified
cashiers check of($28,000) before he travelled for a conference, for a
previous vehicle and its shipment charges etc,but it wasunfortunately
sold. The amount on the check he deposited for the vehicle is bigger than
what should be paid to you now, so the check is now meant for the total
expenses which includes the purchase of your vehicle ,its pick up from its
present location and the shipping charges/other necessary shipping
arrangements. However he has instructed us to bikery on with this
transaction. So when payment gets to you, you're required to deduct the
cost of your vehicle ($23,000) and send the balance of($5,000) to my client
shipping agent to enable him offsett shipping charges/arrangements. Once
the transaction is concluded, My client shipping agent will be coming for
the pick up of the vehicle from its present location, on an access to a
prepaid shipper for shipment, and also conclude other necessary shipping
arrangements. So you dont have to bother yourself about the pick up and
shipping rrangements, while title papers and other necessary documets will
be sent by you via fedex courier . Please Confirm this and provide (1)
NAME (2) CONTACT ADDRESS AND CONTACT PHONE NUMBER(s) for check payment to
be delivered to you via regular mail immediately , please remove the add
of the vehicle from the internet to avoid complications from other buyers

I can't believe people still fall for the "Overpayment-Please return the difference" scam in this day and age. I'd also send the email to the Police Department and the D.A. . If they have the time, they might follow up & catch this guy.

He's done this before & is a predator.

The sad thing is: there are probably tons of people falling for this type of scam otherwise we wouldn't all get so many delivered to our inboxes everyday. I get one of these every time I sell something good (camera, bike etc) on craigslist...

This is the same type wording and off-grammar that I've received when I posted some items for sale on Craigs List. I actually received a "cashier's Check" in the mail from someone who I had emailed back saying I was cancelling the sell to him......and it was sent to me using a public school district's mailing account in the mid-west. So I contacted the superintendent of the school district and suggested he had an employee there illegally using their mail account. Unfortunately, I think the poor language being used in these type scams indicates they are from foreign immigrants either legal or illegal.

If you have some time on your hands you could do what this guy does. It's hilarious. Read through the stories. He's actually a serious fraud investigator (written up in Forbes, etc.), but spent some of his time sending scam artists on incredible wild goose chases. You should do that with your "Luster Dogfild."

There are many crooks out there. My mother well over 80 and always trying to do the "right" thing got a call telling her it was the bank and they wanted to confirm her balance. So,, yup you got it she gave them all the #'s. 2 hrs later my sis spoke to mom and found out, so trip to the bank immediately and closed all accounts. The real scummy prey on the elderly.
