Secondary cats removal and x-pipe installation
Car is at an exhaust fabricator's right now getting the secondary cats removed, and an x-pipe installed, where the resonator currently lives.
Should have it back this afternoon and I'll try to get some sound clips as soon as possible. It's 7* in my part of Maryland right now. That's right, 7*! So, there's zippy chance I'll be taking video today. Try to do it this weekend.

Of course, it's not C63 sweet, but it's right where I wanted it to be, as far as audible note.
I'll try to get a clip this weekend, if it's not too cold.

They just put it where the resonator was. They were of the opinion that even if it were off a couple of inches from the optimal position, it really wouldn't make a difference on these low horsepower engines. They certainly sounded like they knew what they were talking about when it was explained to me. Plus the fact they fabricate exhaust systems for race cars, I figured I'd take their advice.
FWIW, the resonator is actually an x-pipe. Looking inside of it, it looks like an x-pipe with baffles. Nothing more. So, putting in this location was more than likely the right move, since that's where MB thought it should be.

How often do catalytic converters fail? In my years here, I haven't heard of one yet. But I guess anything is possible.
I asked them to call me when they were about an hour away from completion so I could take a few pics while it was still on the lift. I got the call and showed up 30 mins after that. It was sitting in the parking lot when I arrived and there was another E500 on the lift getting brakes done.
But, there's a possibility of a set of headers in my near future. I'll have a hand in that install so there will be pics.
Video/sound clip coming soon. If it ever rises above Arctic temperatures.

I hear you on that.
Will start a new thread.
