Onboard Bluetooth
I have a 2005 E320 that didn't come with the on-board Bluetooth that you can use for the telephone function.
Does anyone know how can I manually install this without going to the dealer?
Just curious.

First you need to determine if the car actually has a phone installed in it.
Do you currently have a cradle or plug in the console area?
If so it is just a matter of plugging in the BT puck and linking your phone.

incartronics.com has a bluetooth adapter that is supposed to plug into a command system and not need any dealer programming. I also have an 05 E320, and the bluetooth is the next mod for it. I have already installed factory Nav and sirius system.

Do you have a phone connector in the center console? If so, you can purchase a Bluetooth puck and install it and that's all you need. There's usually always one for sale in the classified section.

If you don't have the connector (as it sounds like you don't as you would get an "Insert Phone" or similar message) the link posted above looks like it would be a much easier solution to implement since you will not have to install the equipment in the trunk. I am not familiar with the performance of that product however.

For $950 you can buy a brand new Mercedes Benz MHI control box, MOST cable, Puck, ect from a dealer in CA. I just bought this, plus another $400 for the Voice Control System. Its about a 45-60 min job for guys with basic mechancial skill, it just plugs anplay with the built-in electronics rack in the rear. No need to wire an ugly non-oem mic either. You will need to have the car updated "Version Flashed" to use the steering wheel controls but head-in unit of COMAND will work fine. I have the latest Mercedes Service Bulliten to perform this install. Its 6MB, so email me and I will send it to you or if you want the dealer name and number. Thanks!!! Scott.
PS: Rolling in a 2006 E500 with Sport Package, NAV, SAT, VCS, BT, HID Active lighting, HK Sound, AMG rear spoiler, Keyless go, birdseye maple, parktronic, side and rear power sunshades and power trunk. Just added T10 LEDs after being tired of the dull yellow parking lights. Check out my posts for more info, but it was only a 25 min job!

The Puck with Tail is the ONLY thing you need to buy/install (which you can do yourself in less than 15 minutes). It uses the microphone and speakers installed in every W211 for the TeleAid - which is why you then need to have your dealer version code your Benz and have TeleAid "recognize" there's a phone installed. By the way, you DON'T need the upgrade to digital TeleAid either (in case your vehicle doesn't have it).
Once you get this done, EVERYTHING works - steering wheel controls for Telephone System, auto mute when dialing/receiving calls, caller ID for incoming calls on dashboard and COMAND. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

No need to spend $1,350 to get Bluetooth in your car. Can be done for $365 with the OEM "Puck with Tail". Check the MBWorld thread "Puck with tail" initial impressions. This approach won't give you the Voice Control System, but I'm sure the $1,000 you'll save will help you live without it and dial numbers yourself .
