Sounds odd if they would have an E350 for the US but not for Europe.

MB is using up the old stock of 268 bhp engines the same way they were using up the old 5 speed automatic transmission units when they first introduced the E350 wagon. They later put the 7-G transmission into the wagon.
If they bump the horsepower to 300 bhp they would have to increase the E550 engine closer to 400 bhp. Even the US$40,000.00 pushrod Pontiac G8 GXP has 420 bhp and a 6 speed automatic transmission.
MB has to do better.

happen. They have to balance fuel economy with speed though in Europe the last diesel V-8 was more the performance monster.

Nothing new to look forward to then. Nothing interesting in the S-Class diesel for me since hybrids don't interest me. I was initially excited but then discovered it is simply a 350 with hybrid added although it has a top speed of 155mph with the limiter. Perhaps there is a way to disengage the Bluetec speed limiter too. The drive train can manage it though a brake upgrade would be required.

Ya, I think they should put the new engine. Maybe they're having problems on the SLK. Seems like the SLK is the guinee pig for the lower end models.
Actually they wouldn't have to increase the 550 since it is about 80 hp difference between the two (320 v 500: 221 v. 300. So comes out to the same).
