Battery Protection warning...

3 times today, I got a warning on my gauge cluster screen saying....
"Battery Protection: Convenience functions temporarily unavailable"

Then 10-15 minutes later each time, "convenience functions restored."

Please advise as to what is happening and if I need to take it in to the dealer..

Thanks team.

Most likely one of your batteries is failing. The fact that it goes off after a drive is an indication that it has been accepting a charge but will not hold it. Most likely this is the small accessory battery under the hood as opposed to the big battery in your trunk. Would be best to have both of them checked and replace either that is bad or marginal.

Its most likely the other way around. I have replaced both, the warning as the OP stated was for the big battery in the trunk. The one that just shows a red battery with a Visit Workshop warning only was for the small one in the front. Both were months apart, not at the same time. Both went away with new batteries.

My experience was just the opposite to what you stated. I got the warning that the OP had and the small battery only was changed. Been fine now for over a year and the large trunk battery is still the original one. This was in my 05 E. Perhaps as you said when both of your batteries were changed that it was actually the underhood small battery that triggered the warning or both in fact were bad.

Mine is an 03 and the original large starting bat in the trunk is still going. The aux bat under the a/c filter was replaced 3 months ago. I got the visit bat workshop for the aux bat. Took the car and had the trunk bat load tested and it passed all test so I replaced the aux bat. and have had no issues.
